The Astronaut Edition comes to Earth, but only for those who paid to fly on the Virgin Galactic spaceship.

Land Rover and Virgin Galactic have teamed up to develop a special edition Range Rover for the elite members of the Virgin Galactic Future Astronaut community who paid $250,000 to grab a seat on Virgin Galactic’s upcoming spaceship.

Called Range Rover Astronaut Edition, the model is based on the Range Rover Autobiography and features unique exterior and interior touches that express the craftsmanship of Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations & Virgin Galactic. As such, it offers unprecedented comfort, elegance and all-terrain aptitude.

Designers applied numerous space-related touches that should put a smile on any space-lover’s face. For starters, they took a “crafted piece” straight from the front landing skid of the spaceship used during the Virgin Spaceship Unity’s first space flight in 2018; repurposed to create a two-disc emblem, one of which is inscribed with an oft-used Richard Branson quote “See you up there”; and placed it near the center console’s cup holders.

The door handles are made from solid aluminum door handles and engraved with Virgin Galactic’s Future Astronaut community constellation pattern, while the front console drawer and leather-wrapped rear armrest feature a “DNA of Flight” graphic. The Future Astronaut community constellation pattern can also be found on the glove box and front headrests.

Not impressed yet? Land Rover explains that after returning to Earth from the space flight, an owner will be able to remove the spaceship emblem from the center console and replace it with a section of the wooden skid used during his or her spaceflight. The wooden piece can be personalized with text of whatever the owner wants regarding the experience of going into space.

Like the interior, the Range Rover Astronaut Edition’s exterior boasts a number of exclusive touches. Our friends at LandRover of North Dade (FL) pointed to us the Zero Gravity Blue paint that was inspired by inspired by a night sky’s depth and intensity, as well as puddle lamps that illuminate the silhouette of Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo. “Astronaut Edition” badge can be found at the back and on the sides of the SUV.

Buyers have two world-traversing engine to choose from. There is a high-performance 5.0L V-8 P525 supercharged gasoline engine for those who prioritize performance, while the more environmentally-conscious have the option of Land Rover’s P400e (PHEV) plug-in hybrid electric vehicle powertrain, which produces 404PS and allows the Range Rover Astronaut Edition to travel on electricity-only for just over 26-miles!

“Land Rover vehicles have been part of daily life for the Virgin Galactic team since the launch of the partnership in 2014,” states Gerry McGovern, the Chief Design Officer at Land Rover. “The Astronaut Edition Range Rover is the next step on this journey and the chance for the Future Astronaut Community to celebrate our two brands’ shared values of pioneering spirit and a true sense of adventure. This vehicle really will take them Above and Beyond.”

Land Rover has yet to disclose pricing for the Range Rover Astronaut Edition, but if you can afford to pay $250,000 to go into space, you can probably afford to get one.

The premium small SUV borrows many styling cues from its bigger brother the second time around.

Land Rover has unveiled the all-new, second-generation Range Rover Evoque, which brings with it new innovations alongside a familiar look.

The British automaker has sold nearly a million Evoques since its introduction in mid 2011, so it’s understandable why it played it fairly safe with the exterior “redesign”. It looks very similar to the previous Evoque inside and out, but a healthy infusion of Velar styling cues makes things a bit more interesting add modern.

Riding on Land Rover’s new Premium Transverse Architecture grants the new Evoque more interior room than before, with 20 mm longer wheelbase translating to more rear knee room and storage capacity. Inspired by the Velar, the interior has a cleaner, more minimalist design and uses more eco-friendly interior materials, such as Eucalyptus and Ultrafabrics.

Driver and passengers also benefit fromt he latest tech sweeping the industry. including several touchscreens for infotainment duties, a rear-view mirror that can be transformed into an HD video screen for a clearer view, smartphone integration (both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), 360-degree cameras, and a number of semi-autonomous capabilities.

The biggest changes are found under the sheetmetal. While a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine will still be the Evoque’s primary motivator, a new 48V mild hybrid setup has been introduced as an optional upgrade. The system automatically operates in EV mode whenever the vehicle slows to below 11 mph (18 km/h), with the engine not turning on until the driver accelerates again.

A plug-in hybrid model will join the lineup later on.

All new Evoques come standard with an all-wheel drive and Land Rover’s Terrain Response system with six drive modes: General, Eco, Sand, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Ruts, and Auto. Ground clearance comes at 8.3 inches (212 millimeters), with approach and departure angles of up to 25 and 30.6 degrees, respectively.

The all-new, 2020 Ranger Rover Evoque goes on sale in 2019 after making its world debut at the Chicago Auto Show.
