This is a good problem to have in the automotive industry if you’re not starved for cash.
Mercedes-Benz has sold out of its first production run for the EQC all-electric SUV, and it likely won’t be able to keep up with demand until after 2021 or later.
The order book for the EQC opened in 2018, but deliveries began in 2019.
“We are sure that we will not be able to meet the demand in 2019 and probably not by 2020,” Mercedes-Benz CEO Dieter Zetsche told German news outlet . “But we do everything we can to achieve the maximum capacity.”
The EQC joins the Tesla Model X and Jaguar F-Pace, and Audi e-Tron in the growing premium electric SUV segment. Its not clear how many units will be built in 2019 or 2020, making it difficult to determine how it compares with the Model X, but the German automaker limited its production due to concerns about warranty costs.
EQC aside, Mercedes-Benz has lofty goals for the electric car segment and plans to field at least 10 electric vehicles by 2022.
Mercedes-AMG GT R Roadster Is One Exclusive Convertible

Just four months after the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT made its debut, the Mercedes-AMG GT family has grown yet again with the addition of the GT R Roadster.
Arriving just in time for summer, the limited-edition convertible features a three-layer fabric soft top with lightweight aluminum and magnesium construction and an acoustic mat that helps absorb wind noise.
Power is provided by AMG’s 4.0-liter V8 Bitrubo engine, producing 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. The sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) is complete in 3.5 seconds and top speed is reached at 197 mph (317 km/h).
Like the GT R coupe, the GT R Roadster boasts a long list of exterior upgrades that include a wider stance, a larger rear wing, exclusive 20-inch wheels in the rear and 19-inch rims up front, and an adjustable coil-over suspension with active rear axle steering
A number of active aerodynamic components have been implemented to manage airflow around the engine and underneath the car, reducing lift and maximizing efficiency and downforce.
Notable interior touches include AMG black carbon fiber trim elements, AMG Performance seats wrapped in Nappa leather, and an AMG Performance steering wheel.

Mercedes-Benz SL Roadsters Get Grand Edition Treatment
Unique exterior details and an enhanced interior are what you get with this posh luxury package.
The current Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has been around since 2013, and with a new model expected to arrive in 2021, Stuttgart has decided to give it a grand sendoff with the SL Grand Edition.
Available on the SL 450 and 550, the Grand Edition package includes a Graphite Grey exterior paint with high-gloss chrome and matte silver accents and exclusive AMG forged 10-spoke two-tone wheels with 19-inch rims up front and 20 inches out back.
Inside, both models are outfitted with the Mercedes-Benz’s ‘designo’ leather. The seats are adorned with Tundra Brown Pearl leather with diamond quilting and Golden Olive Pearl piping and have SL Grand Edition branding embroidered on the headrests.
The steering wheel is also covered by the premium leather, though the grip areas make due with perforated black Nappa leather instead.
Mercedes didn’t say how many SL Grand Edition models it will build, or how much each will cost, but deliveries begin sometime in 2020.
Mercedes-Benz Fears Public Transportation Will Replace Cars
The German automaker doesn’t want to build trams.
Mercedes-Benz design boss Gorden Wagener believes the seemingly inevitable rise of car-sharing programs in cities could deal a substantial blow to the mainstream car segment, and this is a trap he doesn’t want the company to fall into.
Speaking to , the executive stated that while car-sharing is important for Mercedes-Benz, it shouldn’t entirely replace vehicle ownership. In fact, he predicts that many drivers will still want to own a car in the foreseeable future.
“For rich people, safety and security matter. Lots of people want privacy, security, and so on. They love having their own thing that can be driven autonomously but also manually,” Wagener noted.
Mercedes operates Car2Go, a car-sharing program that provides those who signs up access to a CLA or a GLA. Although the service works well for city dwellers who occasionally need a car to run infrequent errands, Mercedes wants to ensure a future in which there are still cars that people aspire to own.
