GM doesn’t want to be outdone by its crosstown rival or Tesla.
Just one week after Ford confirmed that it was developing an all-electric F-150, General Motors has revealed that that its pickup trucks will likely also go electric.
Duncan Aldred, vice president of the GMC brand, confirmed to about the possibility of an all-electric GMC truck, stating “certainly, it’s something we’re considering.” He did not mention when we would see such a model.
As customers continue to shift away from cars, Trucks have become an increasingly important segment for the Detroit Big Three. Ford, GM and FCA presumably also have their sights on Tesla’s upcoming electric pickup, which could disrupt their dominance.

2020 GMC Acadia Refresh Brings Rugged AT4 Model, New Turbo Engine
The updates include a more aggressive look, a new turbo four, and a rugged new AT4 model.
GMC has given the Acadia a mid-cycle refresh that brings a revised exterior design, interior and tech enhancements, a new engine option, and an off-road-focused AT4 model.
On the outside, the 2020 GMC Acadia features a bolder grill flanked by rectangular headlights with C-shaped LED inserts, new-look rear lights and nicer 18- and 20-inch wheel designs that brings the overall design in line with GMC’s recent design language.
The interior has been enhanced by an electronic shifter that frees up real estate on the center console for more storage space and an updated infotainment system that the company says is “more intelligent and more intuitive” thanks to a higher-resolution eight-inch touchscreen, an easier to use interface, and improved voice recognition. Wireless charging for your phone is available, as are a head-up display system, a new HD rear camera, and a Rear Camera Mirror that replaces the rear-view mirror with a screen.
A new turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine joins the lineup for the 2020 model year and comes standard on the Acadia SLT and Denali models. Mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, it produces 230 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 pound-feet of torque between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm and uses Active Fuel Management (cylinder deactivation) to maximize fuel-efficiency.
The 2.5L four-cylinder and 310-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 engines carry over from the 2019 model, with the latter now shifting through the same nine-speed automatic as the new turbo four instead of a six-speed automatic.
In response to the growing demand for rugged vehicles, GMC has expanded the Acadia lineup with a new AT4 model aimed at adventurous buyers. Like the Sierra AT4, the Acadia AT4 looks the part with a trim-specific grille with black chrome accents, plastic body cladding, 17-inch alloy wheels (20-inch alloys are optional), and a sporty dark interior with contrasting accents.
Lastly, the Acadia has received some suspension improvements that help with ride and handling. Front-wheel drive is still standard, while all-wheel drive is optional, though the Acadia AT4 is offered exclusively with all-wheel drive and the V6.

New GMC Sierra AT4 Gets Off-Road Performance Package With More Power
An engine modification adds an extra 15 horsepower and 9 lb-ft. of torque.
General Motors has announced a new Off-Road Performance Package for the 2019 GMC Sierra AT4 that amps the truck’s 6.2-liter V8 with a performance air intake and upgraded cat-back exhaust system, boosting output to 435 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque from 420 hp and 460 pound-feet.
The package also includes 18-inch machined aluminum wheels wrapped in Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires.
As a reminder, the Sierra AT4 is the most off-road ready version in the all-new Sierra lineup and is already fitted with a 2-inch lift; 4WD with a two-speed transfer case, locking rear differential and skid plates; off-road-tuned Rancho monotube shock absorbers; Hill Descent Control; a Traction Select System; and spiffy MultiPro tailgate.
In the United States, the Off-Road Performance Package adds $4,940 to the price of the Sierra AT4.
Is General Motors Making A New GMC Envoy SUV?
The SUV craze could see the return of the GMC’s midsize SUV.
Having revived the Chevy Blazer, General Motors is now hinting at a new GMC Envoy by .
The Envoy disappeared from GMC’s lineup in 2008, having been replaced by the Terrain and Acadia. However, with the Terrain now comfortably positioned in the compact SUV segment and the tweener Acadia straddling the midsize and full-size SUV segments, there might be room for several other SUVs in the lineup.
The first could be a new small crossover positioned below the Terrain and targeted at the likes of the Toyota CH-R, Honda CRV, and Jeep Renegade. The second SUV could be a proper midsize SUV that slots between the Terrain and Acadia — GMC’s version of the Chevy Blazer, so to speak. Finally, the Envoy name could be used for a proper three-row crossover that would be positioned above the Acadia.
We think the “Envoy’ name is too substantial for a small SUV, so the second or third option is the likely bet.
That’s to say, the Envoy could end up being GMC’s version of the Chevy Blazer, a model aimed at other midsize SUVs like the Nissan Murano, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Pilot, or GMC’s version of the Traverse, a large, three-row crossover offering more room than the current Acadia.
