The new Chevrolet Colorado mid-size pickup truck has recieved an off-road oriented version called the ZR2. Mission? Take on the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro head-on!
Compared to the regular Colorado, the Colorado ZR2 boasts 3.5-inch wider front and rear tracks with new cast-iron control arms for greater durability, as well as a lifted suspension, functional rockers that help provide better performance over rocks and other obstacles, modified front and rear bumpers that enable better off-road clearance, underbody skid plates, and rugged side rails. It rolls on 17-inch aluminum wheels with 31-inch Goodyear Duratrac off-road tires.
The Colorado ZR2’s lifted suspension features Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve (DSSV) dampers, which were developed initially for the high-performance Camaro Z/28. It’s the first production off-road vehicle to use DSSV tech, with Chevrolet’s executive director of Performance Variants, Performance Parts and Motorsports Engineering, Mark Dickens, stating:
“From our experience on Z/28, we knew the performance advantages offered by DSSV dampers. We also know that Multimatic’s motorsport development mentality would allow us to bring a uniquely precise and repeatable custom damper to market even more quickly than a traditional damper system.”
A four-wheel drive system with class-exclusive front and rear electronic lockers come standard.
Buyers will have the choice of two engines: a 3.6L gas V6 that produces 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, and a Duramx diesel unit rated at 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both powerplants allow the Colorado ZR2 to tow up to 5,000 pounds or carry 1,100 pounds in its bed.
According to Chevy, the Colorado ZR2 packs the most off-road technology of any pickup in the mid-size segment.
GM’s ‘Buckle To Drive’ Lock System Forces Driver To Wear Seatbelt
The system prevents the vehicle from shifting into gear if the driver seatbelt is not secured.
General Motors has added a new ‘Buckle to Drive’ feature to its growing range of teen-driver safety technologies.
Called Buckle to Drive, the industry-first system is so simple that we’re surprised it tool so long for it to become mainstream. As a more strict and more effective seatbelt enforcement method than an annoying chime and reminder lights, it does not allow the driver to shift out of park for 20 seconds if his or her seatbelt isn’t secured.
A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States and teens have the lowest rates of seat belt use compared with other age groups.
When GM ‘s researchers piloted the new feature on a select number of fleet vehicles, seat belt usage among adults increased 16 percent over the regular audible chime.
The technology will launch in the 2020 Chevrolet Traverse before rolling to other new GM vehicles. It must be activated via vehicle’s Teen Driver mode.
2020 Chevy Camaro SS Gets Concept Styling Update, New V8 Package
A better design and a great sports car deal are what you are getting.
General Motors has made several changes to 2020 Chevrolet Camaro lineup, most notable of which are a styling upgrade for the Camaro SS and the introduction of a more affordable V8 package.
The new Camaro SS front end is inspired by the Shock concept that debuted at the 2018 SEMA Show, featuring a repositioned bowtie emblem in the upper grille and a body-color bar between the upper and lower grilles. These design chances should help quell the complaints many people had with refresh from the 2019 model.

“Customers spoke, and we listened,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing. “The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Shock’s stylized design helped prompt its transition from concept to production.”
Buyers short on money can now buy a new Camaro LT1 model that combines the content and design of the Camaro LT and Camaro SS. It is powered by the 455-horsepower LT1 V8 and has a starting price of $34,995 (including freight) in the United States, making it the cheapest V8-equipped Camaro.
That’s right, you can get a 455-horsepower sports car for under $35,000.
GM Is Working On Electric Truck To Rival Ford, Rivian And Tesla
The pickup truck segment is gearing up to enter the electric era, and GM wants to be at the forefront.
Not to be outdone by cross-town rival Ford, which intends to build an electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck, General Motors has announced that it too has plans for a full-size electric pickup.
GM CEO Mary Barra broke the news on a conference call with investors but fell short of providing any other details, such as a time frame.
“GM has an industry-leading truck franchise and industry-leading electrification capabilities. I assure you we will not cede our leadership on either front,” Barra stated. “We intend to create an all-electric future that includes a complete range of EVs — including full-size pickups.
Barra’s announcement follows shortly after GM ended talks with up-start electric vehicle maker Rivian, which chose instead to forge a partnership with Ford. Rivian will build at least one electric vehicle for the Dearborn automaker as part of their $500 million agreement.
Not only will GM’s electric truck compete with the electric F-150, but it must also contend with the Rivian R1T and Tesla’s electric truck, both of which could arrive in a few years.
