The 2012 C-Max shares its platform with the new Focus and seats up to seven passengers. Although able to seat seven, the C-Max is not as big as an Odyssey or Grand Caravan (it has an overall length of 178 inches and a wheel base 110 inches long); so those two rear seats aren’t suited for adults. The C-Max is targeted at buyers that don’t need big minivans.
The C-Max will be Ford’s first model to use the all-new turbocharged 1.6L EcoBoost four-cylinder. It puts out 180-hp and 173-lb-ft. of torque and it’s mated to a six-speed automatic. The standard engine is Ford’s 2.5L four-cylinder that puts out 168 horsepower and 167 lb-ft. of torque.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 20, 2010 – The Ford C-MAX is an all-new, affordable transportation alternative for growing, busy North American families who crave industry-first technology, flexible seating and interior space, sporty performance and best-in-class fuel economy.

The new C-MAX is part of Ford Motor Company’s global small vehicle strategy that will deliver at least 10 vehicles – and 2 million vehicles annually – from a single C-vehicle platform by 2012.
This new compact family vehicle introduces a host of unique features including an industry-exclusive hands-free power-operated rear liftgate, versatile 5+2 seating configuration with five seats in the main cabin and two smaller seats in the third row, twin sliding doors and active park assist, an advanced new system that automatically steers the vehicle into parallel parking spaces.
Performance with fuel economy
The new C-MAX also heralds the arrival of Ford’s first application of the all-new 1.6-liter EcoBoost™ I-4 engine in its North American C-class vehicles, delivering a combination of responsive performance with improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions.
Developed for global applications, the lightweight, all-aluminum 1.6-liter Ford EcoBoost engine combines high-pressure direct injection, low-inertia turbocharging and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) to achieve fuel economy results up to 20 percent better than naturally aspirated, larger-displacement gasoline engines with a similar power output. This new engine is expected to deliver the best available highway fuel economy for a seven-passenger vehicle.
The C-MAX base engine is a proven 2.5-liter iVCT I-4, optimized for small crossover application with plenty of low-end torque. Both engines are mated to Ford’s 6F35 automatic six-speed transmission with a gear ratio span allowing for responsive acceleration from rest yet fuel efficiency for around-town driving and steady cruising at speed.
“The scale and flexibility of our global new C-vehicle platform enables us to develop distinct vehicles including C-MAX,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president of Global Product Development. “It’s a ‘white space’ vehicle here in North America – a new choice – and we believe buyers will appreciate the technology, convenience and functionality C-MAX packs into a neat package.”
C-MAX has a 109.7-inch wheelbase and an overall length of 178 inches, comparatively close to the original minivans offered in North America. C-MAX delivers room for up to seven passengers or five occupants with a generous amount of cargo.
The new model will solidify its appeal to customers that value comfortable accommodation, a high seating position, versatility and a “smart-sized” package.
C-MAX has bold exterior and interior designs created using the latest evolution of Ford’s kinetic design language and building on themes established in recent product introductions such as the Ford Fiesta and Focus ranges.
Maximum versatility and convenience
The seating concept and door layout for the 5+2 C-MAX was finalized after detailed research with typical family users to identify the most popular configurations.
The vehicle features twin sliding rear side doors and a clever new seat folding concept for second-row seats. The second-row seat is equipped with a unique mechanism that allows the middle seat position to fold quickly and easily under the right-hand seat, creating a handy walk-through space between the two outboard seats so passengers can easily access the third row, as well as two individual, bucket-like seats.
The second-row seats also have slide and recline functionality, adapting to multiple combinations of passenger seat positions and cargo capacity. Outboard second-row seats also have a tip-and-slide forward function for easy access to the third-row seats when the second row is used.
The third-row seats can be omitted as a delete option, for those buyers electing to forgo the 5+2 seating arrangement.
The C-MAX provides a raised “command bridge” cockpit with high-mounted gear shift and center console. The driver controls and displays incorporate available Ford SYNC® and MyFord Touch™, similar to the acclaimed layouts recently introduced in other Ford nameplates.
Dynamics and refinement
“This all-new model is set to take small crossover performance to a new level, giving drivers a class-leading combination of responsive, sporty handling, and overall refinement and quietness similar to the standard found in larger luxury vehicles,” said John Davis, chief engineer for the North American C-MAX.
Key chassis technologies on C-MAX include completely new electric power-assisted steering (EPAS), optimized new designs for the Control Blade multilink rear suspension and semi-isolated front subframe and standard new torque vectoring control to further improve cornering stability and agility.
Smart technology for safety and practicality
As the first derivatives to be launched from Ford’s new global C-car platform, C-MAX benefits from the introduction of an array of advanced technologies generally only found in larger, more premium vehicles.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 20, 2010 – Gesture or motion technology employed in today’s video game systems is coming to the new seven-passenger Ford C-MAX crossover, designed with families in mind.
“In the new C-MAX, customers no longer need to set their packages down or fumble to locate their keys to open the rear hatch, especially when their hands are full,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president, Global Product Development. “The hands-free liftgate allows them to easily and quickly open the cargo area with one simple leg motion.”
The hands-free liftgate debuts on the Ford C-MAX, which is being shown at the 2011 North American International Auto Show. The C-MAX can seat up to seven and is a popular model in Europe because of its clever combination of style, versatility and fuel efficiency.
Enabled by Intelligent Access with push-button start
The hands-free liftgate is enabled by Intelligent Access with push-button start. This technology allows customers to unlock and start their vehicles without ever having to take out the key. When the key fob is in their possession – kept in a pocket, coat, purse or briefcase – a simple pull on the door handle unlocks the vehicle. Once inside the vehicle, the driver simply holds down the brake pedal and presses the power button to start the vehicle.
In conjunction with the Intelligent Access system, there are two sensors located in the rear bumper. One detects the shin and the other detects the leg motion to enable the hands-free liftgate. The customer simply needs to possess the Intelligent Access key fob and gently wave his or her foot under the bumper to operate the feature.
Additionally, the liftgate height can be programmed or adjusted manually to meet specific customer needs.
“We recognize that the C-MAX customer usually has his or her hands full. Whether carrying packages while holding a young child’s hand or carrying bags full of groceries, the hands-free liftgate will make their lives a whole lot easier,” said Wendy King, C-MAX brand manager.
The combination of the system detecting the key fob and leg motion is necessary to unlock and open the liftgate and safeguards against any accidental opening.
“Animals running under the car, hitting a bump on the road or similar unintended gestures won’t trigger the liftgate to open,” said Michael Becker, systems engineer. “This is one smart feature.”
As with other technology Ford has developed, the hands-free liftgate is a customer-focused solution, like SYNC® and EcoBoost™, which can be implemented in other vehicles around the globe.
“The arrival of the hands-free liftgate on the new C-MAX is just the beginning for this technology,” said Kuzak. “Customers soon will see this same technology roll out across our broader portfolio of vehicles.”
Subaru WRX STI S209 Is The Most Powerful Subaru Ever
The long-rumored, limited edition Subaru WRX STI S209 is here, and it’s the most powerful car ever built by Subaru.
Unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Auto SHow, the S209 transcends the standard WRX STI in power, aerodynamics, and handling. Engineers reworked Subaru’s 2.5-liter boxer engine, giving it a larger HKS turbocharger that increases boost pressure from 16.2 psi to 18.0 psi and stronger yet lighter pistons and connecting rods.
The result? A significant boost in power from 300 horsepower to 341 horsepower, while midrange torque jumps by 10 percent at 3,600 rpm. All that power is sent to the four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
Inspired by the the WRX STI Nürburgring Challenge racecar, the WRX STI S209 looks the part with wider fenders, front canards and a large rear wing. Handling benefits from a revised chassis and suspension, a flexible strut tower bar and tensioned draw stiffeners, along with 19×9-inch forged BBS alloy wheels covered in sticky Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires.
The Subaru WRX STI S209 will be available exclusively in the US market, and only 200 units will be manufactured. You will be able to choose from two color combinations: WR Blue Pearl with gray wheels and Crystal White Pearl with gold wheels.
New Lexus RC F Track Edition Joins 2020 RC F Lineup With Less Weight, More Performance
A track-focused version joins the updated RC F for 2020.
The new Supra was Toyota’s big debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, but luxury subsidiary Lexus tagged along to remind everybody that it already has a performance coupe, one with a V8 to play with.
The RC F has received some upgrades for 2020 model year, and to make it more compelling for sports car enthusiasts, Lexus has added a new Track Edition to the lineup for 2020. The so-called RC F Track Edition is a stripped-down, track-only spec model that benefits from more aggressive aerodynamic elements and a weight-reduction regime.
Like the regular RC coupe, all Lexus RC F models get new headlights, a restyled grille and new taillights. The 5.0L V8 has been caressed to squeeze out an extra five horsepower and 6 lb-ft. of torque, bringing the total to 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft. The eight-speed automatic transmission carries over but now has a higher final drive ratio (3.13 vs 2.93).
With the RC F Track Edition, major panels like the roof and hood are carbon fiber, and the standard RC F’s rear seats have been replaced by a carbon fiber partition.
Engineers also equipped 19-inch BBS forged-alloy wheels, Brembo with lightweight carbon-ceramic brake rotors, and a titanium muffler and tail pipes. These lighter pieces come together to reduce the Track Edition’s weight by 176 pounds from the RC F, and Lexus estimates that using the standard launch control system propels it to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just under 4.0 seconds (3.96 seconds, to be exact).
Standard on even the stock RC F, the new electronic launch control automatically adjusts the traction and throttle control for maximum acceleration from a stop. All the driver has to do is press and hold the brake pedal, engage the system, floor the accelerator to bring up the engine speed, and release the brake.
To help the RC F Track Edition stand out, designers gave it a red leather interior with Alcantara seat accents and red carbon trim on the doors and dashboard. Only two exterior colors are available: Ultra White and Matte Nebula Gray.

The Telluride also features four-wheel independent suspension with an optional self-leveling system and all-wheel drive. ‘Comfort’ and ‘snow’ odes distribute just 20 percent of torque to the rear wheels, while ‘sport’ has a 65-35 front-back split and ‘lock’ divides power equally between all corners.
Inside, the clean, BMW-esque dashboard is fitted with a 10.25-inch touchscreen that’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibile, while a 10-speaker, 630-watt Harman Kardon sound system makes it easy to blast you favorite tunes throughout the cavernous interior. There’s also a wireless charging pad and a total of six USB charging ports.
Buyers looking for a more premium look and feel can splurge on a number of luxury interior appointments, ranging from quilted Nappa leather to matte-finish wood.
