Because the Divo just isn’t hardcore enough…

Despite sharing most of its parts with the Chiron, the Divo is an entirely beast that, unlike the Chiron, can actually handle well on a race track. Well, Bugatti thinks it can do better than the Divo.

The Supercar Blog reportedly received word from sources familiar with the matter that the companyis planning an even more extreme Chiron, one possibly wearing the ‘Super Sport’ badge. Sketches of the car were supposedly shown to VIP customers at the Divo’s unveiling.

Described as “a beauty of speed” and a “ground-to-ground Missile”, the super duper Chiron is claimed to be powered by the same 8.0L quad-turbo W16 engine found under the hood of both the Chiron and Divo, but its output will pass 1,500 horsepower mark.

It will be produced in extremely limited numbers — 20 to 40 units are planned — much like the Divo.

Bugatti hasn’t confirmed anything, but if the report is accurate, we’ll see the more hardcore Chiron at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

A Bugatti SUV Seems More Likely By The Day

Bugatti seems to really want an SUV.

Less than two months after hinting at the possibility of its first-ever SUV, Bugatti hits the news wave with yet more hints.

At the 2018 Paris Motor Show, company CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Automotive News Europe that his team is discussing a range of chassis and engine variants and an SUV that fits with the brand’s billionaire target audience. He also alluded to the fact that its trademark W-16 engine won’t be around forever.

Bugatti is not impervious to industry trends and will likely introduce a hybrid powertrain at some point, one that could potentiality be used by the new SUV.

“The brand is ready for more,” Winkelmann said. While there will be no expansion to the lineup if it is not economically viable, is there really anything hotter on the market than SUVs and crossovers?

An SUV with Bugatti’s brand image and engineering pedigree surely cannot fail, especially when considering it will be targeted at ridiculously wealthy individuals with a bottomless pit of money.

New Bugatti Divo Hypercar, Super Chiron

The SUV-crossover segment might be too lucrative to ignore.

Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann has hinted that the brand is ready for a second model, and it could be an SUV.

During the reveal of the Bugatti Divo (pictured) at Pebble Beach 2018, Winkelmann revealed to Autocar that Bugatti is ready to expand its lineup, stating “It’s clear that if we do something different from a super-sports car like the Chiron, then it would not be enough just to be in love with one type of car.”

When asked if the second Bugatti would be a sedan or an SUV, he replied “We would look at every bodystyle and regional demand and not put our money into something that is fading.”

As you probably know, the SUV and crossover segments are anything but fading and are, in fact, growing perceptibly at the expense of all other segments, especially four door sedans. So Winkelmann stating that Bugatti is not interested in participating in a “fading” segment suggests that a Bugatti SUV is at least under consideration.

If Bugatti is truly working on an SUV, how do you want it to turn out? Let us know in the comments below.

Full-Size Lego Bugatti Chiron

The massive Lego Chiron replica actually drives, but nowhere as fast as the original 1,479-horsepower car.

Not content with the 1:8 scale model it built early, Lego’s Technic division buckled down to create a life-size Chiron that you can not only sit in, but also drive.

The extra blocky, 3,300 pound hypercar is the toy company’s first fully functioning car and took 13,438 man hours and 1,000,000 Lego Technic pieces to assemble. It only makes 5.3 horsepower and 67 lb-ft. of torque and has a top speed of 12 mph, so don’t expect to be running laps on the track anytime soon.

Andy Wallace, the driver behind the Lego Technic Chiron, stated:

“When I first saw the Lego Chiron, I was immediately impressed by the accuracy of the model and the minute attention to detail. In fact, from about 20 meters away it’s not obvious that you are looking at a Lego car. I can only imagine how much time and effort went into making this model.”

Bugatti released a video showing the Lego Chiron crawling along the Ehra Lessien test track outside Wolfsburg, the primary testing ground for the original Chiron was tested.
