Forza Horizon 4 Is The Racing Game To Have This Year

Published

Forza Horizon 4 Racing Game, Porsche

The latest Forza Horizon is the most realistic and comprehensive installment yet.

The Forza Horizon series distinguishes itself from the buttoned-down Forza Motorsport series by taking the racing action off the track and into detailed open-world environments, and Forza Horizon 4 is the ultimate expression of that concept.

This time around, car aficionados take to a shared open-world Britain, with the time of day and seasonal changes altering the driving conditions and the accessibility of pathways. In Forza Horizon 4, the world literally changes over time, second by second.

As sister site points out, the consensus from gamers and critics alike is that this is another winner for the Xbox One.

, in particular, noted in their review that “everything you do in Horizon feels valuable, no matter how big or small… The charm of the Horizon series is as palpable as ever, a winning, all-inclusive recipe that celebrates the joy of driving above all else.”

echoed those sentiments, concluding “… open-world racing has never looked as good as it does in Forza Horizon 4. It combines a beautiful world that’s really four hugely distinct maps in one with a constantly rewarding and self-renewing racing experience and I really can’t tear myself away from it. Playground Games hasn’t just upped the ante once again; it’s blown the bloody doors off.”

Needless to say, if ever there was a racing game to keep you glued to your controller in 2018 and 2019, Forza Horizon 4 must surely be it. It is playable on the Xbox One and PC.

Racing game aficionados, rejoice! Come November 2016, the PlayStation 4 will be the recipient of the latest installment in the iconic Gran Turismo series.

The so-called ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ is actually a partial release — a prologue, if you will — of a full-on game that will release later on. Gamers will be treated to 130 out of 400 available cars (both real and fantasy) and 19 different locations, all of which have been rendered from scratch in painstaking detail.

The cars are customizable, and a high-definition photo mode that lets you look at the stunning locales with the cars is also available.

If its is anything to go by, Gran Turismo Sport’ takes photorealism to a new level for the franchise. Watch it and let us know what you think…

Sponsored Video: Castrol EDGE Brings Real-Life Racing and Virtual Reality Together

Real-Life Racing, Virtual Reality

The world of and the real world of driving have fused, and it’s amazing! As part of their Titanium Trials, which are a series of high-powered driving challenges that “bring man, machine and oil together to push the boundaries of performance,” Castrol EDGE pitted two international driving stars in a head-to-head race unlike any other.

Rookie Formula Drift professional Matt Powers and UK racing stunt driver Ben Collins (previously “The Stig” of Top Gear) both sought glory in a thrilling race behind the wheel of a real world, V8-powered 2015 Ford Mustang on a sunlit track in Los Angeles, each wearing a state-of-the-art Oculus Rift Kit 2 headset that augmented the track to feature an ever-evolving terrain of sheer drops and death defying twists and turns.

I mean, why play Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo if you can experience a video game world while driving an actual car? Technology never ceases to amaze…

Needless to say, the groundbreaking track pushed Powers and Collins to the limits of their talent. Despite reacting to the challenging obstacles thrown their way by the virtual world, both drivers navigated their Mustang in the real world like pros, which is to say with no accidents, an impressive feat considering they were basically driving ‘blind’.

Watch how it all went down, and who came out the winner…

The complex virtual reality code used to make the innovative challenge possible was designed and developed over the course of 3 months by LA based technologist duo Adam Amaral and Glen Snyder, who noted:

“The really exciting thing about this project is that Castrol EDGE are using the same technology that the big automotive manufacturers are utilizing for autonomous cars but taking this is a new direction by fusing it with the virtual world to create something totally unique and ground – breaking, pushing the boundaries of both gaming and racing. One of the biggest challenges of developing this live racing technology was to overcome the problem of latency and ensure that there is no need for recalibration when it comes to the racers tracking. What we have achieved is the closest VR technology can currently get to full immersion.”

It’s only a matter of time before you and I are given the opportunity to race real cars on real race tracks in a virtual world…

Gran Turismo Sport Revs Up for PS4, But It’s Not GT7

Published

Gran Turismo Sport

Sony has a Gran Turismo game for the PlayStations 4, but it’s not the much-anticipated Gran Turismo 7. Even so, the so-called Gran Turismo Sport is a taste of what’s to come…

Gran Turismo Sport will be the first racing game to be fully sanctioned by the FIA, motorsport’s international governing body, allowing car enthusiasts to take part in virtual world championships — two, in fact!

The first is a ‘Nations Cup’ that has players represent their country against the rest of the world, while the second is ‘Manufacturer Fan Cup’ that sees them select a favourite manufacturer for whom to compete.

Both virtual series will run simultaneously with a World Final at the end of the season, and — for bragging rights –championship winners will actually be awarded their trophies alongside the Formula One world champion at the FIA’s yearly gala — can you believe that?

Watch the announcement trailer…

Gran Turismo Sport is a preview of what GT7 will offer, serving like prologue of sorts. However, unlike the Prologue games that led up to the full-fledged Gran Turismo titles of the past, it’s more substantial and offers gamers a lot more content.

A Gran Turismo Sport beta will launch in early 2016 before the PS4-exclusive game’s full release a few months later. Are you excited for it?
