Dodge’s latest police car is based on the popular Durango SUV.

Unveiled at the 2018 National Sheriffs’ Association Show in New Orleans, the Dodge Durango Pursuit joins the Dodge Charger Pursuit (currently the the top-selling police sedan in the U.S. market) in the company’s growing portfolio of law enforcement vehicles. Engineers primed it for chases with a new front fascia featuring integrated brake-cooling air ducts that improve brake performance and a new performance-tuned, load-leveling suspension.

There is a choice of either a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine rated at 293 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque or the 5.7L HEMI V-8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

Other performance upgrades include a two-speed transfer case; larger, heavy-duty anti-lock brakes; the 13.8-inch front and 13-inch rear pursuit-rated brake package; front- and rear-stabilizer bars and 18-inch aluminum wheels.

The Durango Pursuit has a perfect 50:50 weight balance, thanks to the clever packaging of the powertrain components in the construction of the vehicle, while under-vehicle mount for the spare tire frees up room in the cargo area.

With 8.1 inches of ground clearance and 7,200 lbs towing capability, this police car should have little problem taking care of business on and off the beaten road. Moreover, a segment-leading wheelbase of 119.8 inches (3.04 meters) not only improves stability and handling, but it also ensures there’s enough room for passengers.

Watch it in action in the video below.
