New Ford Mustang Hybrid Will Have V8 Performance

As car buyers and the world’s government’s steadily shift towards greener options, the future of V8 powered muscle cars seems bleak, so much so that even the iconic Ford Mustang is going electric.

The Mustang nabbed the title of world’s the best selling sports coupe for the third year in a row, a position Ford hopes to maintain for the foreseeable future. Having previously confirmed that it is working on a new Mustang Hybrid, the American automaker now expects the model to be ready sometime in 2020.

In an interview with , Corey Holter, the Ford Group Marketing manager who oversees the Mustang, said:

“Mustang will continue to evolve and strike the right balance between heritage and being contemporary and fitting into today’s society.”

Ford hopes a Hybrid version will make the Mustang more appealing in regions outside of North America like China and Europe. Details are scarce, but you can be certain it won’t be a Prius rival. In fact, in addition to delivering the best mileage ever for a Mustang, it will supposedly offer “V-8 levels of power and even more torque.”

The electric future is inevitable, even in the world of muscle cars.

Ford Celebrates 50 Years Of Mustang Cobra Jet With A Demon-Killer

The first Mustang Cobra Jet hit the track way back in 1968.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of its iconic Turnkey racecar, Ford took to the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise to show off the fastest, most powerful drag racing Mustang ever.

The aptly-named 2018 50th Anniversary Cobra Jet is capable of pulling off mid-eight-second quarter-mile passes and reach a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h), making it a full second faster than the race-equipped, 840-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon in the quarter mile.

Power comes from a special 5.2-liter version of the automaker’s 5.0-liter V8, fitted with 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger and backed by a 9-inch solid rear axle. It also boasts a two-way coil-over shocks with adjustable ride height, a low-drag disc brake system, a four-link rear suspension with antiroll and panhard bars, and anniversary-badged racing wheels.

The standard NHRA-certified safety roll cage will surely come in handy, as will the FIA-certified seats.

Ford’s 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet is available in either Race Red or Oxford White and it’s priced at $130,000. Only 68 examples will be built, in honor of the year it debuted.

2019 Honda Civic Brings Updated Styling, New Sport Trim

The Honda Civic has received a number of updates for its 2019 model year, including an exterior refresh, more standard safety features and a new Sport trim.

Outside, the 2019 Civic introduces a revised front end with new upper and lower fascias, a re-sculpted bumper, a full-width front splitter, chrome side pod accents, and updated headlights. New wheel designs and a new chrome accent on the rear bumper of the Sedan round out the exterior upgrades.

Positioned between the EX and EX (Touring in Canada), the Civic Sport trim is intended to be a value model with a more athletic aesthetic. It is distinguished by a piano black lower front fascia, side pod accents, a rear decklid spoiler on the sedan, a splitter-style rear lower bumper with a chrome polygonal exhaust finisher, and 18-inch 10-spoke black alloy wheels.

Both the Civic Sport sedan and coupe come equipped with a seven-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a volume button, while power is provided by a 2.0-liter 16-valve DOHC VTEC engine that can be mated to either a CVT or a 6-speed manual.

All trims of the Civic now come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of safety fearures, which includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation, a Lane Keeping Assist System, and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Ford Builds 10 Millionth Mustang, Celebrates With P-51 Mustang Fighters

It’s almost hard to believe, but Ford has built over 10 million units of the iconic Ford Mustangs. The company celebrated the milestone with employee at its Dearborn headquarters and Flat Rock assembly plant, highlighted by flyovers from three World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighters.

The 10 millionth Mustang was a 2019 Mustang GT convertible painted in Wimbledon White and powered by a 460-horsepower V8 and six-speed manual gearbox.

Produced in 1964, the first serialized Mustang (VIN 001) was the same color and had a 64-horsepower V8 with a three-speed manual transmission.

Ford claims the Mustang is America’s best-selling sports car over the past 50 years and the best-selling globally for three years straight. Jim Farley, president of global markets, Ford Motor Company, stated:

“Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favorite around the world. I get the same thrill seeing a Mustang roll down a street in Detroit, London or Beijing that I felt when I bought my first car – a 1966 Mustang coupe that I drove across the country as a teenager. Mustang is a smile-maker in any language.”
