You Can Now Subscribe To Volvo Cars For Flat Monthly Rate

New Volvo XC40 SUV

The new Volvo XC40 inaugurates ‘Care by Volvo,’ a new subscription service that targets younger buyers, letting them subscribe for select Volvo model at a flat monthly rate.

Aimed at making car ownership “as easy as having a cell phone,” the all-inclusive program starts at $600 per month (excluding registration, local taxes) for the company’s XC40 compact crossover and covers the cost of the lease, maintenance, insurance, and wear and tear, with no down payment required.

Subscribers must agree to a 24-month contract term, with an option to sign up for a new two-year subscription as early as 12 months into the agreement. They are restricted to a 15,000-mile allowance and — like the latest cell phone monthly plans — can change cars when desired.

Two configurations of the XC40 will be available, starting with the XC40 T5 AWD Momentum with Premium Package, Vision Package, heated front seats and steering wheel, panoramic roof and 19-inch wheels.

For those that want a bit more substance, there is the XC40 R-Design with Harmon Kardon premium sound and 20-inch wheels, which if chosen, bumps the monthly fee up to $700 a month.

Other Volvo vehicles will be added to service in the future, each commanding a different monthly rate.

The price may see step, but Volvo says over 2,000 people have already signed up for the service, a figure that’s likely to grow. If you’d rather just buy the 2018 Volvo XC40, the price starts at $35,200 in the United States.

New Suzuki Jimny Gets Turned Into Mercedes G-Class Lookalike

Liberty Walk Suzuki Jimny Mini G

The Suzuki Jimny is commonly viewed as a poor man’s Jeep Wrangler or Mercedes-Benz G-Class, nut one Japanese tuner has taken the comparison way too literally.

Some of the most defining styling cues of the latest Jimny — round headlights, tall boxy silhouette, etc. — are shared with the G-Class. Liberty Walk took advantage of the resemblance to build a G-Class lookalike, calling its creation the “G-Mini”.

Starting with the stock Jimny, Liberty Walk added a new grille insert with two horizontal slats, a hood made out of carbon fiber, a front bumper with air vents shaped like the one on the previous G-Class, fender flares, and wider alloy wheels.

There is also a light bar above the windshield like the one on Liberty Walk-tuned G-Glass builds, as well as side-exit dual chromed exhaust tips under the running board that suggests the G-Mini might have a mechanical upgrade. Hopefully it’s a power injection to back up its looks — the 100 horsepower produced by the stock Jimny’s 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is just too measly to be taken seriously.

What do you think? Did Liberty Walk do a good job at making the Suzuki Jimny look less like a poor-man’s Mercedes-Benz G-Class? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

New, 2019 Suzuki Jimny Rugged Small SUV Is Even Cuter And Tougher

New, 2019 Suzuki Jimny Little SUV, Off-roading

Suzuki’s rugged and cute off-roader has been reborn as an even cuter, boxier and more capable little SUV.

Now in its forth-generation, the all-new Suzuki Jimny arrives 20 years after the previous Jimny debuted in 1998 — a very long time in the automotive world. Whereas the previous model at least had a few curves offset its boxy design, the latest iteration adopts even more squared off proportions with hardly an arched line in sight.

The slab-sided design makes it look tougher than its diminutive size would suggest and gives a marked resemblance to the Jeep Wrangler and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.

An available two-tone styling package adds a black grille, lower fascia, and roof, further accentuating the angular design, while the flat-topped fenders seem to provide even more wheel clearance for bashing around off-road.

One can argue that the Jimny is a poor-man’s Wrangler, which itself is viewed by many as a poor man’s G-Class, but we think it has more spunk than either model.

New, 2019 Suzuki Jimny Cute SUV interior

Inside, the new Jimny gains a far more modern looking cabin than its predecessors, with a touchscreen infotainment system now siting at the top of the center stack and a digital display slotting between two large gauges in the instrument cluster. It retains traditional knobs for controlling the HVAC system but makes them look for more stylish than on the previous model.

A range of engines will be offered. In Japan, the rugged little SUV is available with a 660cc engine that complies with the country’s kei car requirements or a more powerful 1.5-liter unit. Europeans have the choice of the 1.5-liter, a 1.2-liter four-cylinder, and a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder.

The engines can be paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox. Four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case contribute to its off-roading capabilities.

In addition to Japan and Europe, the new Suzuki Jimny will also be sold in the Indian subcontinent, South America and other parts of the world, but not North America.

Suzuki left Canada and the United States back in 2013, which is too bad. The stunning little off-roader would have been easier on on the wallet than the Wrangler and especially the G-Class.

New Ford Territory Is A Hybrid SUV For China

New Ford Territory SUV, China

The new Ford Territory is one of 50 new or redesigned vehicles Ford has planned for China from 2018 through 2025.

Jointly developed with local partner Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford’s entry level SUV is essentially a rebadge of Jiangling’s Yusheng S330 that’s been on sale since 2016, but with a different front fascia, more attractive dashboard design, and more technology. Chinese buyers have the choice of three engines — a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, a 48-volt mild hybrid system, and a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Inside, the Territory features a modern infotainment system with Mandarin voice controls and is available with Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance technologies, which includes adaptive cruise control and FordPass Connect.

Sales begin in early 2019 with a price tag that should be higher than the S330’s start MSRP of around 80,000 Yuan (~$11,700 USD).
