The Alfa Romeo Guilia can now add best-in-class safety to its list of impressive credentials, having earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
To be eligible for the institute’s top safety rating, a vehicle must receive “good” ratings in all five crashworthiness tests (small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints), as well as an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.
The 2017 Guilia equipped with the optional front crash prevention system and curve-adaptive headlights achieved top rating, scoring “good” in all crash tests and earning top marks of “superior” for its automatic braking systems and “good” for its bi-xenon projector headlamps.
Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo, stated:
“The Giulia represents the height of Alfa Romeo engineering and technology so no effort was spared when it came to the vehicle’s performance and safety features. We’re honored to receive this award from IIHS as it shows our commitment to creating state-of-the-art vehicles.”
Arguably the sportiest, most engaging contender in its segment, the Alfa Romeo Giulia competes with the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4 and other premium compact-size sedans. It has a base price of $37,995 in the United States.
