The BMW 3 Series is no longer the benchmark in the compact sports sedan segment, having been beaten by the Cadillac ATS and Jaguar XE on the performance front and by the Mercedes C-Class in the luxury and refinement department.
The German automaker isn’t sitting idle as the competition eats its lunch, however. According to a report from , the next 3 Series (codenamed G20) will not only fight back against the C-Class, XE and ATS, but will also take on the Tesla Model 3.
Set to arrive sometime in 2017, the car will be lighter than the current 3 Series (pictured), thanks to a new platform called dubbed CLAR (short for Cluster Architecture) that makes extensive use of carbon-fibre construction technology to keep weight down.
With its CLAR platform, the next 3 Series might become the lightest model in its class.
It will be powered by a new range of three, four and six-cylinder engines that beat the likes of the A4 and XE on CO2 emissions. Even more intriguing, BMW is also planning to compete directly with the highly-demanded Model 3 by offering a full-electric version of the car, as well as a plug-in hybrid model.

BMW 8 Series Coupe Takes Mantle Of BMW’s Flagship Two-Door
After months of spy shots and teasers, the BMW Series Coupe has finally be unveiled and is all set to go on sale in November 2018.
The new 8 Series Coupe’s design doesn’t stray too far from the striking Concept that previewed it, featuring a long, low-slung profile that’s reminiscent of the the 6 Series Coupe’s and a wedged front fascia defined by prominent grille and the slimmest headlights yet on a BMW. LED headlights are standard, while adaptive LED Headlights and BMW Laserlight lights are optional.
Jumping inside, one finds customizable 10.25-inch digital display in front of the driver and a 12.3-inch infotainment system situated directly in the middle of the dashboard. Wireless charging, the BMW Display Key and a Bowers and Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System are part of the long list of optional features.
The 8 Series will initially be offered with a choice of two engines. The M850i XDerive is equipped with a bi-turbo 4.4L V8 that produces 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft. of torque and, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, allows the large German coupe to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 3.7 seconds before reaching a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
The 840d xDrive sources its power from a Europe-exclusive 3.0L six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 320 horsepower and 501 lb-ft. of torque. With the eight speed automatic, it completes the sprint in 4.9 seconds and has the same top speed of 155 mph.
A rear-bias xDrive all-wheel-drive system helps get all that power to the ground, while an electronic rear differential lock comes standard on the M Performance package.
Ride and handling have been optimized with BMW’s Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, active roll stabilization, electromechanical steering of the front wheels, rear-wheel steering and variable steering ratios.

Is The New BMW Z4 A Major Design Downgrade?
We all knew the all-new BMW Z4 would be a watered-down take on the eye-catching concept, but I don’t anyone expected it to be so severely downgrade?
Patent filings for the production Z4 show a roadster that, although not ugly, is boring unlike the stunning Z4 concept it draws inspiration from. Frankly, it doesn’t look any more modern than its predecessor, which is almost 10 years old.
Why even bother with the concept in the first place?

All-New, 2019 BMW Arrives With Familiar Design, Lots Of Modern Tech
BMW has unveiled the fourth-generation BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle, and it’s bigger, better, and all too familiar.
The German automaker didn’t want to mess with a good thing, so the all-new X5 has a similar appearance to its predecessor. It does however get a few design touches that make it more modern looking, including a larger version of BMW’s signature kidney grille, a front bumper with bigger air inlets, slightly hexagonal wheel archers, wider and slimmer taillights, and a more sculpted two-section tailgate.
The more muscular look is further accentuated by a short front overhang and sculpted hood. 9-inch wheels come standard, but customers have a choice of wheels up to 22-inches in size.
The latest X5 is bigger and roomier, riding on a new wheelbase that is 1.6-inches longer than the model it replaces. It is also 2.6-inches wider and 1.0-inch taller.
Inside, occupants are presented with a classic BMW layout with high-tech components and high-quality materials. The dash is highlighted by a 12.3-inch digital cluster display and a 12.3-inch center screen that runs the seventh-generation of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system, which uses the cloud and allows users to easily transfer their preferences from one BMW to another.
Standard features include power-operated and heated front seats, four-zone climate control and ambient lighting, and the options list includse a head-up display that is larger and has 3D graphics, cooled and massaging front seats, remote engine start, heated and cooled cup holders, and a panoramic glass roof Sky Lounge with a 23 percent larger glass surface.
Should you need for seats, the X5 can be equipped with with a third-row of seats.
Two different trim variants will be offered — xLine and M Sport. Although neither provides changes to the X5’s suspension or steering setups, the xLine model places an emphasis on luxury, while the M Sport model is said to enhance the driving experience.
Ride, handling and comfort can be enhanced by such options as the Adaptive M suspension Professional with active roll stabilization and Integral Active Steering, which steers the back wheels for improved maneuverability. An available two-axle air suspension can improve the X5’s ride comfort, in addition allowing drivers to raise or lower their vehicle for better off-road clearance and ease of loading.
Speaking of off-roading, a new Off-Road Package now comes standard with the air ride suspension and adds underbody protection, a electronically-controlled rear differential lock, unique instrument cluster graphics, and special off-road settings for the xDrive all-wheel drive system.
When the new X5 goes on sale, it will be offered with a with a range of gasoline and diesel engines. The BMW X5 xDrive40i is powered by a 3.0L six-cylinder engine that produces 340 hp and 332 lb-ft. of torque, allowing it to reach 62 mph in 5.5 seconds on route to a top speed of 151 mph. The X5 xDrive50i makes due with a 4.4L V8 rated at 462 hp and 479 lb-ft. of torque, completing the sprint 4.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 155 mph.
On the diesel front, the X5 xDrive30d sources its power from a 3.0L six-cylinder diesel engine with 265 hp and 457 lb-ft, accelerates to 62 mph in 6.5 seconds and has top speed of 143 mph. The X5 M50d gets a 3.0L diesel with 400 horsepower and 560 lb-ft. of torque, reaches 62 mph in 5.2 seconds and is capped at a 155 mph top speed.
The long list of safety features includes Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Frontal Collision Warning and Pedestrian Warning with City Collision Mitigation, Cross Traffic Alert Rear, and Speed Limit Information, all of which come standard, as well as adaptive cruise control with Traffic Jam Assist and Automatic Lane Change.
BMW’s new Emergency Stop Assistant is also available. Intended to prevent accidents, it brakes the X5 automatically and steers it to the side of the road to avoid a collision, and then activates the hazard lights and alerts emergency personnel.
