Not long after it was revealed that General Motors had purchased ride-sharing company Sidecar, the American automaker has launched Maven, a new brand for all its car-sharing endeavors.
GM plans to significantly expand its car-sharing services beyond small pilot programs and Maven is integral to realizing that plan. Company president Dan Ammann stated:
“With the launch of our car-sharing service through Maven, the strategic alliance with ride-sharing company Lyft, and building on our decades of leadership in vehicle connectivity through OnStar, we are uniquely positioned to provide the high level of personalized mobility services our customers expect today and in the future.”
GM is expanding Maven’s in multiple cities and communities across the United States, promising that services, which include city, residential, peer-to-peer and campus programs, will be customized to regional customer needs.
Those interested can use smartphone apps to search, reserve and even unlock vehicles. Pricing details have not been revealed, but the company’s NYC pilot offered vehicles for $10 per hour and $75 for a full 24 hours.

2020 Cadillac CT5 Has Very Low Price For A Luxury Sedan
The CT5 hopes to undercut its German competition with a very low price and a lot of standard features.
Cadillac has announced pricing details for the all-new Cadillac CT5, and the car costs a lot less than we expected.
The CT5 replaces the CTS as the brand’s new midsize luxury sedan. Three trim levels will be available for the 2020 model year: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport.
With a starting price of $37,890 in the United States, the CT5 Luxury is significantly less expensive than the CTS and much more affordable than the base Mercedes-Benz E-Class ($54 000), BMW 5 Series ($54,395), and Audi A6. The CT5 Premium Luxury and Sport start at $41,690 and $42,690, respectively.
All three trims come standard with a rear-wheel drive setup and a 237 horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four mated to a 10-speed automatic. Driver-assist systems such as forward collision alert and automatic emergency braking being are also standard, as are a 10-inch touch screen and keyless push-button start.
By comparison, the 2019 CTS’ price starts at $46,995 — nearly $10,000 higher — and comes with less standard equipment.
All-wheel drive is a $2,600 option on the Luxury and Sport trims, but $3,090 on the the Premium Luxury. Going for the CT5 Premium Luxury gets you some nice features like leather seats over the base Luxury model, while the Sport trim adds performance brakes and sporty appearance bits.
The Cadillac CT5 has big shoes to fill as the successor to CTS, the nameplate that arguably brought the Cadillac brand into the modern era. But as good as the CTS was, it didn’t sell well.
With a dirt cheap starting price and wide array of standard features, the CT5 appears to primed to more successfully steal sales from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. Only time will tell if Cadillac’s pricing strategy achieves the desired results.
2020 Buick Enclave Brings New Sport Touring Package
Buick’s big SUV also gets a new infotainment system and optional surround-view camera system.
The Buick Enclave has received a few updates for its 2020 model year, most notable of which is a new Sport Touring package that gives it a sportier appearance.
Available on the Essence trim level, the ST package adds a unique body-color grille and 20-inch bright machined aluminum wheels with contrasting Satin Graphite pockets.
The 2020 Enclave also benefits from Buick’s next-gen infotainment system that’s standard on all models, complete with an 8-inch touchscreen. It can also be equipped with a new HD Rear Vision Camera, an HD Surround Vision systems, and a new, four-way power lumbar seat adjuster with a driver and front passenger massage feature that comes standard on Premium and Avenir editions.
The 2020 model year introduces three new exterior colors: Champagne Gold Metallic, Rich Garnet Metallic (Avenir only) and Dark Moon Blue Metallic.
Sales of the 2020 Buick Enclave begin in late summer 2019, with prices starting at $41,195 (including freight).
Forget Cadillac! Does GM Needs A $100K Corvette SUV?
If Lamborghini, Porsche and, soon, Ferrari can have an SUV, why should Corvette?
Bob Lutz, the iconic automotive curmudgeon who helped shape BMW, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, believes General Motors has a great opportunity to take the Corvette nameplate upmarket with a Porsche Cayenne-like Corvette SUV that starts at $100,000.
Speaking to Automotive News, the former GM executive argued that Corvette is facing the same problem as Harley Davidson in that its baby boomer client base is dying out, meaning the brand is going to need a lot more than a traditional sports car like the new C8 Corvette to remain viable.
“The owner body is getting older and older and older, and there are no young people coming in,” Lutz said, adding that while he doesn’t believe Cadillac has any space to go upmarket, the Corvette brand does.
As for specifics about the Corvette SUV, he suggested that General Motors develop a dedicated architecture that’s super lightweight and powerful, envision something “Porsche Cayenne-like, only much better and a little bigger.” It will be a medium volume model with a starting price of $100,000, and it should never be offered with a V6 or as a low-cost offering.
The thought of a Corvette SUV might be offensive to some hardcore fans, but the times have changed and SUVs and crossovers are what make or break virtually every aspiring automaker.
The marketplace has also proven that there’s space for powerful, performance-oriented SUVs. From the Lamborghini Urus to the under-development Ferrari SUV and Lotus SUV, everyone’s getting in on the high-margin, sporty SUV game.
Lutz is not the first to make such an argument, and he likely won’t be the last. It will be interesting to see what will follow the C8 Corvette.
