British automaker Bentley is cooking up a high-performance two-seat sports car and the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept is a preview of what’s to come.
Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor How, the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept is a sportier evolution of the Continental GT, featuring a slimmer, more angular and more aggressive body more fitting of a James Bond movie. The front fascia sports relatively low-slung headlights that pay tribute to classic British performance cars, as well as a large “6” shaded into the grille.
Moving back, we see a side profile dominated by a sloping greenhouse, massive brake ducts, swept-back wheels, and very muscular rear fender, while slim LED taillights, an aggressive splitter, and molded-in exhaust outlets give the rear end both a classy and athletic look.
Inside, the EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept houses a fully-digital instrument cluster, aluminum / leather steering wheel, quilted Poltrona Frau Leather seats, and solid cherry and brushed aluminum trim throughout. A high-tech touchscreen spans the top portion of a narrow center console and sits atop a classic analog clock.
Bentley didn’t release performance specifications, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the car is at least as powerful as the Continental GT, which produces 582 horsepower (590 PS) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft.) of torque from Bentley’s trademark 6.0L W12 engine.
“EXP 10 Speed 6 is one vision for Bentley’s future – a powerful, exquisite and individual concept,” stated Wolfgang Dürheimer, CEO of Bentley Motors “The show car has the potential to be the new pinnacle luxury two-seat sports car. It offers thrilling, driver-oriented performance, complete with trademark modern Bentley luxury and effortlessness.”
Not only does the Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 Concept preview a high-performance sports car that will be sold alongside the Continental GT, but it also points to the future of Bentley styling. Frankly, it is the sexiest Bentley I have ever laid eyes on.
Cadillac Announces ATS-V and CTS-V Championship Editions
Cadillac has introduced new Championship Editions of the Cadillac ATS-V and CTS-V to celebrate the company’s win of the 2017 IMSA Manufacturer, Driver, Team and Endurance Championships.
Both commemorative ATS-V and CTS-V are available in Black Raven or Crystal White with Cadillac V-Performance graphics on the hood and rear spoiler and come with Red Obsession side-view mirror caps, a DPi-V.R graphic on the quarter windows, Red Brembo brake calipers and forged polish-finished alloy V-Series wheels with Midnight Silver painted pockets.
A Morello Red detail package gives their interiors Jet Black Recaro seats, red front and rear door armrests and Morello accented high gloss carbon fiber interior trim.
The 2018 Cadillac Championship Edition ATS-V starts at $72,190 for the sedan and $74,390 for the coupe, while the 2018 CTS-V Championship Edition sedan starts at $105,730.
Porsche Making Gas-Electric 911 To Take On New Tesla Roadster?
Likely caught off guard by the ridiculously bonkers performance of the new Tesla Roadster electric sports car, Porsche is now working on a gas-electric Porsche 911 after previously shelving plans for such a model.
Tesla’s new Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 2 seconds (1.9 secs, to be precise) and to 100 mph (161 km/h) in only 4.2 seconds, a level of performance unmatched by any production car to date, not even the mighty, 1,479 horsepower Bugatti Chiron. Production begins in 2020.
According to , the Porsche 911 Hybrid will be introduced a few years after the next-generation 911 arrives in 2019, meaning it could it hit the market around the same time the Tesla Roadster does.
As a hybrid, the 911 won’t be a fully electric vehicle like the Roadster, with Porsche targeting an electric driving range around 40 miles compared to the Tesla’s 620-mile range.
Porsche has yet to confirm development of the car, but a spokesman confirmed to Bloomberg that the next 911 allows integration of an electric powertrain. The German automaker was even reported to be looking at solid-state battery technology for future electrified versions of the 911 and Boxster.
New Tesla Roadster Ushers In New Age Of Performance Cars
Supercars as we know them can now be considered obsolete, thanks to Tesla. The new Tesla Roadster blows everything out of the water in pure speed, all the while delivering remarkable driving range for an electric car.
Unveiled alongside the electric Tesla semi truck, a likewise in its own right, the Roadster promises to break many records, including an extraordinary zero-to-60 benchmark below two seconds.
How does a launch to 60 mph from a standstill in 1.9 seconds sounds? How about to triple-digit speeds in just 4.2 seconds? A quarter mile run of 8.9 seconds? Absolutely ludicrous for any car — no Ferrari, Porsche, Bugatti or Koenigsegg can beat those times.
It seems like only yesterday that a sub-3-second sprint was the talk the of the industry — the big deal. Not anymore!
With such an unprecedented level of performance, you would think the Roadster would underperform in the range department, but that far from the truth. A 200-kilowatt-hour battery pack allows it to drive upwards of approximately 620 miles (998 km)on a single charge at highway speeds.
Some perspective: You can drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco — and back — without stopping to recharge.
On top of everything, the new Roadster has seating for four occupants. It’s also all-wheel drive and has a removable top. There aren’t a lot of four-seat, removable top, AWD cars out there.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk bluntly boasted that it will deliver a “hardcore smackdown” to gasoline cars. It’s hard to argue with that, and we imagine the engineers at Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren and every other big-name supercar maker are tripping over themselves scrambling to the drawing board. The future is electric!
The new Tesla Roadster has a base price of $200,000 and a starting reservation of $50,000. Sales begin in 2020.
