New Names for All Cadillac SUVs/CUVs will Begin with ‘XT’

As part of Cadillac’s new naming structure, which requires the names of all its cars to begin with ‘CT,’ the names of all Cadillac SUVs and crossovers will be prefixed by ‘XT,’ except for the Escalade.

The subject of a lot of backlash, the name change brings Cadillac’s models in line with the alpha-numeric structures used by the top players in the premium car segment — BMW, Audi and, to a lesser extent, Mercedes-Benz. ‘XT’ will be followed by a number that indicates the relative size and positioning of each crossover and SUV in the company’s lineup.

“It’s a logical thing to give some mental space like this in your naming scheme,” Ellinghaus said. “So many other brands have done that sort of thing, across industries. It’s not rocket science. It doesn’t fit our immediate business needs, but this simple logic will help us build this brand and enhance recognition over the long term,” Cadillac Chief Marketing Officer, Uwe Ellinghaus, stated in an interview with .

The next Cadillac SRX and all future crossovers and SUVs will be named accordingly, but Ellinghaus says the Escalade name will stay as is, given its strong following.

The CTS replacement has arrived in style.

Cadillac has unveiled the CT5, the successor to the CTS and the brand’s all-new midsize sports sedan.

Design wise, the new CT5 falls in line with Cadillac’s latest design language, featuring a short and wide shield-shaped grille, angular headlights, and vertical LED daytime running lights.

A fastback-like roofline rather than traditional three-box proportions gives the model a more distinctive side profile than the CTS, while thin, vertical taillights make it instantly recognizable as a member of the Cadillac family.

The CT5 rides on an evolution of the critically-acclaimed Alpha platform that underpins the ATS, the CTS, as well as the Chevrolet Camaro. Power will come from one of two engines (you choose): a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, or a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6.

Rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission come standard, and all-wheel drive will be offered as an option on select models.

Two flavors of the CT5 will be available at launch: Sport and Luxury. The former takes on a more muscular appearance, while the latter goes for elegance instead.

It came out of nowhere and shocked the Detroit Auto Show.

Cadillac followed up the unveiling of the Cadillac XT6 large crossover with a preview of its first-ever all-electric vehicle.

Taking the form of premium electric crossover, the concept is striking and likely also hints at the brand’s future design direction.

“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. “It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.”

  • The surprising reveal comes not long after General Motors announced that Cadillac will lead its electric vehicle strategy, effectively making it the automaker’s Tesla-fighter. Specific details such as power or features aren’t known, nor do we have a definitive timetable as to when the production model will be ready, but it will be the first GM vehicle to be built on the company’s forthcoming dedicated EV platform and should offer level 4 autonomous capabilities at the least.

    In essence, not only will the vehicle be Cadillac’s first step into the EV world, but it will also push it deeper into the autonomous realm.

New Cadillac XT6 Debuts As Cadillac’s First Three-Row Crossover

The new crossover joins the XT4, XT5 and XT6 in Cadillac’s growing lineup of utility vehicles.

Cadillac used the 2019 Detroit Auto Show to unveil its much-needed Cadillac XT6, it’s first-ever large three-row crossover.

Slotting below the flagship Escalade SUV, the new XT6 is aimed at the Audi Q7, Infiniti QX60, Acura MDX and the new Lincoln Aviator and should offer buyers a more car-like experience than the Escalade, which is technically a V8-powered pickup truck underneath.

Cadillac played it safe with the exterior styling, which aside from the distinct front fascia, is relatively bland, especially when compared to big brother Escalade and the Lincoln Aviator. Even the baby XT4 seems to have more street presence despite having a smaller footprint.

We have no problem with the substance over form approach taken, but some personality could go a long way to appeal to a broader audience. Seriously, where is the swag, Cadillac?

Buyers have the choice of two trim levels: Premium Luxury and Sport. The XT6 Premium Luxury goes for a more sophisticated and understated look with brighter accents and wood trim, while the XT6 Sport gets slightly different front and rear fascias, a black grille and black window moldings, clear rear taillights, carbon fiber trim, and unique exhaust housings.

Regardless of trim, LED projector headlights are standard ware, while a “performance” LED option is available. Wheel sizes range from 20-inches to 21 inches.

The interior mirrors that of the XT5, featuring a clean and premium look that, like the exterior, leans on the safe side. It is a tour de force on the tech front, however, giving buyers the latest in convenience and safety features.

Notable highlights include an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility; near-field pairing for compatible smartphones, allowing owners to connect to the car via Bluetooth by simply touching their phone to an icon on the dash rather than by fumbling through menus on their phone or infotainment system; a 15-watt charge pad for fast wireless charging; and a powerful Bose Performance Series audio system with 14 speakers.

With 29.5 inches of legroom and 37.2 inches of headroom, the XT6 has more third-row head and legroom than the Audi Q7 (29.2/35.9) and Acura MDX (28.1/35.6), and more headroom than the Infiniti QX60 (30.2/36.5). A standard power-folding third row makes it easy to free up space for your cargo.

Powere is provided by a 3.6-liter V6 rated at around 310 horsepower, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and an available twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system. A five-link independent rear suspension, front McPherson struts and adaptive dampers at all four corners should help ensure a compliant ride.

On the safety front, all XT6 models come standard with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, night vision, and a head-up display are optional.

Interestingly, as with the XT4, Cadillac made no mention of Super Cruise in the XT6’s press release. Let’s hope the company is still on track to offer in all its vehicles by 2020.
