Tesla Motors Selects Nevada for Gigafactory Battery Plant

Tesla Gigafactory Nevada

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has announced that it will build its Gigafactory battery plant in the state of Nevada. The manufacturing plant aims to deliver up to 50 GHw of annual production by 2020, eventually providing enough batteries to power a half million Tesla cars.

Unlike your typical assembly plant, Tesla’s Gigafactory will be powered solely by renewable energy (e.g. solar and wind power) and will be one of the largest net zero-energy factories in the world.

“The Gigafactory is an important step in advancing the cause of sustainable transportation and will enable the mass production of compelling electric vehicles for decades to come,” Elon Musk said in a press statement. “Together with Panasonic and other partners, we look forward to realizing the full potential of this project.”

In order to secure the deal, Nevada reportedly offered up to $1.3 (€1) billion in tax breaks and other incentives that will span the course of 20 years.

“This is great news for Nevada. Tesla will build the world’s largest and most advanced battery factory in Nevada which means nearly one hundred billion dollars in economic impact to the Silver State over the next twenty years,” stated Governor Brian Sandoval. “I am grateful that Elon Musk and Tesla saw the promise in Nevada. These 21st century pioneers, fueled with innovation and desire, are emboldened by the promise of Nevada to change the world. Nevada is ready to lead.”

The Gigafactory will likely be used to produce the Tesla Model S full-size sedan, Model X crossover, Model 3 small sedan, and other future models.

Is The Chevrolet Camaro Going To Die Again?

2019 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Race Track

Was Chevy’s muscle car revived only to die again?

The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro may be the last Camaro, at least for the foreseeable future.

According to , General Motors has stopped work on the seventh generation Camaro and has no plan to take the Camaro nameplate beyond the 2023 model year.

The sixth-gen Camaro is based on the same Alpha platform that underpins the Cadillac ATS sedan and coupe. However, while the ATS’ successor (the new CT4) uses the next generation Alpha platform, there are no plans for the Camaro to make the same transition.

Sales of the Camaro have declined significantly over the past few years, which is unfortunate considering how good of a sports car it is. The fifth generation Camaro took off after debuting in 2009, selling over 80,000 Camaros every year. But despite getting rave reviews from critics, the sixth-gen saw its sales drop to 51,000 units in 2018, which was a whopping 25 percent decline from the prior year.

Supposing the report is true, this won’t be the first time the Camaro has gone on hiatus. There was a seven-year gap between the fourth- and fifth-generation models.

BMW Vision M Concept Is A Stunning And Futuristic M1

BMW Vision M Next Concept hybrid supercar

Does this concept preview a more-powerful i8 successor or even a supercar wearing the M1 badge?

BMW has unveiled the BMW Vision M Next concept, a design study that could do the iconic M1 some serious justice, though it also looks like a next-generation i8. Like modern concept cars, it is an electrified vehicle with autonomous tech.

More specifically, the Vision M Next concept is powered by a rear-mounted turbocharged four-cylinder engine and two electric motors — one on each axle — that generate a combined output of 600 horsepower, enough power for a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph (299 km/h).

The electric drivetrain is also capable enough to let the Vision M Next travel up to 62 miles (100 km) without the gas engine.

In keeping up with the Jones, the BMW Vision M Next concept features autonomous driving capability for when you have places to go but just don’t feel like driving all that much. It can also park itself after reaching your destination.

Depending on who you ask, the futuristic exterior looks like a sci-fi M1 (it gives of strong TRON vibes) or a more angular i8 with unique color blocking at both ends. The front and rear portions are finished in a matte neon Thrilling Orange paint job that pop against the rest of the exterior’s silk-matte Cast Silver metallic paintwork, while the front rims have a traditional silver-and-black two-tone finish and the rear sets boast Thrilling Orange inserts that match the body.

The interior is just as radical as the exterior and is accessed via gullwing doors that can be opened and closed with a mere glance thanks to a facial recognition system. The cockpit features a sleek digital dashboard, a curved glass center display, and an augmented reality head-up display.

BMW says the Vision M Next “provides a glimpse into the future of sporty driving” but didn’t announce any production plans. Would you like to see it go from concept to reality? Let us know in the comments below.
