The 2014 Moscow Motor Show was host to the Renault R.S. 01, a race car designed to compete in a new Renault-sponsored, one-make race series called the Renaultsport Trophy championship.
Measuring 4710mm (185 inches) long, 2000mm (78 inches) wide and 1166mm (43 inches) tall, and with a curb weight of less than 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs), the R.S. 01 boasts a lightweight carbon monocoque that meets the FIA’s LMP1 regulations. Under its hood is a de-tuned version of Nissan GT-R’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces around 500 horsepower and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft.) of torque, transmitted to lightweight 18-inch center-locking rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential gearbox controlled by steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. It can hit a top speed of more than 186 mph (300 km/h).
The R.S. 01’s highly-aerodynamic body features a lower front splitter that diverts air flow into extractors installed behind the front wheels, two fins on the sides of the bumper that generate vortices that limit the turbulence of the rotating wheels, and a prominent NACA hood duct.
Out back, the race car sports a wide spoiler, massive rear wing, and twin exhaust tips. Adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers and a braking system with carbon discs and six-piston calipers up front keep power in check.
While not shown, the interior is said to house a steel roll cage and a single bucket seat with a six-point harness.
The Renault R.S. 01 is bigger and more powerful than Renault’s upcoming Alpine-badged sports car and is not street legal.
2019 BMW M2 Competition Is An M2 With An M3 Heart, Makes 405HP
The ultimate M2 and, thus, 2-Series has arrived. A more track-ready, tire burning sports car, the 2019 BMW M2 Competition is powered by the S55 twin-turbo 6-cylinder engine from the BMW M3 and M4.
The M2 Competition’s turbo six has been tuned to pump out 405 hp between 5,230 and 7,000 rpm and 406 lb-ft. of torque between 2,350 rpm and 5,230 rpm, which is an extra 40 horsepower and 63 lb-ft. over the standard M2. It can be paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing the M2 Competition reach 60 mph (96 k/h) from a standstill in 4.2 – and 4.0 seconds, respectively.
Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph (249.50 km/h), though it can be raised to 174 mph (280 km/h) with the optional M Driver’s Package.
Other performance goodies include a dual exhaust system with electronic flap control that helps deliver the distinctive M sound, the BMW M3 and M4’s CFRP high-precision strut, and larger disc brakes. The electromechanical power steering, Active M Differential, and Dynamic Steering and Stability Control systems have all been enhanced.
Inside, the BMW M2 Competition comes equipped with new M Sport seats with a very supportive, bucket-style shape that borrows heavily from motorsport, while the headrests are integrated into the seat back rest. The backrest features an illuminated M2 logo, and the black leather upholstery boasts design perforations (available in either blue or orange) in the seat and backrest.
The center console houses selector switches that allow instant control of settings for the engine, steering and Drivelogic functions. The driver can combine the various configurations in whichever way he prefers and stored for easy access using the M1 and M2 buttons on the steering wheel.
The BMW M2 Competition goes on sale in summer 2018.
Mercedes-AMG Making A Porsche Boxster, Cayman Rival?
Not content with the Porsche 911-rivaling AMG GT Coupe, Mercedes-AMG is reportedly considering a smaller sports car that will compete against the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman.
Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers revealed to that the brand may be looking at introducing a small model that will sell alongside the GT family, leading to speculations of a small two-door aimed at the Porsche’s 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster. The model and its variants could replace the Mercedes-Benz SLC, which no longer has an AMG variant and is gradually being phased out from Mercedes-Benz’s lineup.
With the GT Coupe going after the 911 and the flagship GT 4-Door Coupe (pictured) taking on the Panamera, a smaller sports car targeting the Boxster / Cayman seems like the logical next step for the Mercedes-AMG brand. Just don’t expect a standalone SUV — Mercedes-AMG has ruled out the possibility of one in order to not cannibalize sales of Mercedes-Benz’s AMG SUV variants.

New, 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Is The Fastest, Most Powerful Cobra Jet Yet
The 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet celebrates the iconic drag strip race car’s 50th anniversary and is the fastest and most powerful Mustang Cobra Jet ever created.
Built by the Ford Performance Parts team, the latest Mustang Cobra Jet is powered by a supercharged 5.2L Coyote V8 that lets it complete the quarter-mile in the mid-8-second range at a top speed of 150 mph (241.4 km/h), which is faster than the Dodge Demon’s claimed quarter mile of 9.6 seconds at 140 mph (241.4 km/h).
Other performance highlights include a unique four-link rear suspension, a 9-inch solid rear axle from Strange Engineering, and a drag race-specific coil-over suspension with specially designed Weld Racing wheels with 50th anniversary badging
The interior is equipped with Racetech FIA seats and A NHRA-certified roll cage. There’s also an optional 50th-anniversary graphics package for those who want a bit more flair.
Only 68 units of the purpose-built drag racer will be made, each painted in either Race Red or Oxford White. Unfortunately, none of them will have VINs, meaning they can’t be registered to drive on the street.
Needless to say, performance has reached a whole new level of bonkers. Two American, V8 drag-racing monsters — the Mustang Cobra Jet and the Dodge Demon — going at it at the drag strip. Brace yourself, folks.
