Renault R.S. 01 Race Car Revealed, Makes 500-Horsepower

Renault R.S. 01 race car

The 2014 Moscow Motor Show was host to the Renault R.S. 01, a race car designed to compete in a new Renault-sponsored, one-make race series called the Renaultsport Trophy championship.

Measuring 4710mm (185 inches) long, 2000mm (78 inches) wide and 1166mm (43 inches) tall, and with a curb weight of less than 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs), the R.S. 01 boasts a lightweight carbon monocoque that meets the FIA’s LMP1 regulations. Under its hood is a de-tuned version of Nissan GT-R’s twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine that produces around 500 horsepower and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft.) of torque, transmitted to lightweight 18-inch center-locking rear wheels via a seven-speed sequential gearbox controlled by steering wheel-mounted shift paddles. It can hit a top speed of more than 186 mph (300 km/h).

The R.S. 01’s highly-aerodynamic body features a lower front splitter that diverts air flow into extractors installed behind the front wheels, two fins on the sides of the bumper that generate vortices that limit the turbulence of the rotating wheels, and a prominent NACA hood duct.

Out back, the race car sports a wide spoiler, massive rear wing, and twin exhaust tips. Adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers and a braking system with carbon discs and six-piston calipers up front keep power in check.

While not shown, the interior is said to house a steel roll cage and a single bucket seat with a six-point harness.

The Renault R.S. 01 is bigger and more powerful than Renault’s upcoming Alpine-badged sports car and is not street legal.

McLaren Senna Is Worthy Of Namesake – Hits 60 In 2.8 Secs, Top Speed Of 211 MPH

McLaren Senna supercar racing

McLaren has paid tribute to legendary Formula One race car driver Ayrton Senna with a very special supercar, the appropriately-named McLaren Senna. Billed as the ultimate road-legal track car, the Senna is as intimidating in appearance as it is in performance.

Senna won the Formula 1 World Championship three times in a McLaren. To achieve an experience truly worthy of his name, the car combines a low vehicle weight of just 2,641 pound (1,198 kg), extreme power, lots of downforce and a new track-focused active suspension system to achieve space-warping performance figures.

It tips the scale at only 2,641 pound (1,198 kg), thanks to the use of McLaren’s third-generation carbon-fiber monocoque, and providing motivation for that lighweight body is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 — McLaren’s most powerful engine ever to power a road car — that produces 789 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. It boasts a massive hydraulically-operated rear wing that helps deliver 1,760 lbs (800 kg) of downforce

This combo allows the McLaren Senna to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds, to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 6.8 seconds, and to a top speed of 211 mph (344 km). Should an owner ever line one up at the dragstrip, it will complete the quarter mile in 9.9 seconds.

Those are stats worthy of the Senna name, won’t you say?

Only 500 units of the McLaren Senna will be made, each with a price tag of around a million dollars. What do you think?

New, 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1 Sets Lap Record At VIR, Crushes Ford GT

New, 2019-Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Lap Record

The all-new, 2019 Corvette ZR1 coupe, with its ridiculous performance figures, screams “record-beater,” so it comes as no surprise that it set a production-car lap record on the 4.1-mile Grand Course West at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) with a time of 2:37.25.

VIR is a technical and challenging circuit that’s often dubbed the Nürburgring of America. The previous record-holder, the Ford GT (2:40.02), unseated the Dodge Viper ACR (2:38.62) to become king of the track, a title it didn’t hold on to for long.

The only updates to the record-setting Corvette ZR1 were the addition of a harness bar and track seats with five-point harnesses. Everything else, including the eight-speed automatic transmission and the ZTK Performance Package that adds the adjustable carbon-fiber High Wing, a front splitter with carbon-fiber end caps, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, and specific chassis and Magnetic Ride Control tuning, either come standard or are part of the production car’s options list.

Of course, we would be remiss not to mention what powers the 2019 edition of this beast — a supercharged LT5 6.2L V8 that produces 755 horsepower and 715 lb-ft. of torque. Paired with the aforementioned eight-speed, it allows the American supercar to teleport from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in approximately 2.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of over 210 mph (338 km/h)!

Mark Reuss, executive vice president, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain, stated:

“The Corvette ZR1’s lap record at VIR, arguably America’s most challenging road course, is a testament to its supercar status. On the racetrack, the ZR1 can compete with any supercar — at any price.”

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 coupe starts at $119,995 in the United States, while the ZR1 convertible kicks off at $123,995.

New, 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt

The Ford Mustang Bullitt is back! Ford unveiled the latest iteration of its special-edition muscle car at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic movie “Bullitt”.

The Bullit has been an occasional entry in the Mustang lineup since 2001, with all sporting the Dark Highland Green of the original movie car. In the case of the new Mustang Bullitt, that beautiful exterior color (you can also get in ‘Shadow Black’) is set off by a badgeless grille, retro 19-inch gloss black torque thrust wheels, and red brake calipers.

Inside, there are a number of unique touches befitting its status as a special edition vehicle, including a 12-inch digital screen that displays a unique Bullitt welcome graphic of the car rather than the pony and a white cue ball shift knob that pays homage to the original. Just think the equipment you get in a GT Premium but a tad bit cooler.

Power is provided by an upgraded 5.0-liter V8 that produces least 475 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque. Paired to a manual transmission, it delivers a top speed of 163 mph, which is an 8 mph increase over the Mustang GT.

Components from the Mustang GT’s Performance Package such as MagneRide suspension and Brembo brakes come standard, as do Recaro seats.

The special-edition 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt goes on sale in summer 2018 with a manual transmission.
