This is the New Smart ForTwo and ForFour City Cars [Video]

Published

New Smart ForTwo city car

Proving unpopular the first time around, the Smart ForTwo is back for round 2, bringing its four-door fraternal twin, the ForFour, along for some city adventures.

The all-new, completely-redesigned ForTwo promises to offer more room, equipment and safety feature than its predecessor without an increase its length (it measures 2.69-meter, or 8.8 feet). Naturally, the larger ForFour is longer at 2.69-meter (8.8 feet), offering room for two more passengers or a much larger cargo volume should the rear seats be folded flat.

Design-wise, the small city car is still as pint-size as ever, featuring very short overhangs. It borrows a few styling cues from the Smart ForJoy, ForStars and For-Us concepts, such as the large grille; the prominent logo described as demonstrating “self-confidence”; and the larger, more angular headlights and taillights. Buyers will have the choice of approximately 40 different two-tone color combinations.

The upgraded interior houses a three-spoke leather steering wheel with multifunction controls, a 3.5-inch display on the instrument cluster, a free-standing touchscreen display for the infotainment system, funky air vents, heated seats and many other interesting goodies. A JBL sound system is optional, bringing eight speakers to the ForTwo or 12 speakers to the ForFour.

For motivation, the two Smart models will be offered with three different three-cylinder engines, including a 1.0-liter naturally-aspirated unit making 70 horsepower (72 PS) and 91Nm, a 0.9-liter turbo mill rated at 89 hp (90 PS) and 135Nm, and — later on — a 59 hp (60 PS) petrol engine. Power is sent to the front wheels either by a five-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch six-speed automatic gearbox.

Smart is particularly proud of the super small turning circle the two cars, which is set at 6.95 m (from kerb to kerb) and 7.30 m (from wall to wall) for the ForTwo, and at 8.65 m (kerb to kerb) and 8.95 m (wall to wall) for the ForFour.

In Europe, the new Smart ForTwo will have a starting price of under 11,000 euros (~$14,880 USD), while the more spacious ForFour with the same engine will fetch around 11,600 euros (~$15,690 USD). North American pricing will be announced at a later date.

Here is some trivia: The latest ForTow and especially the ForFour are mechanically related to the new Renault Twingo. What do you think about how they turned out?

Toyota Kills The Prius C, Replaces It With Corolla Hybrid

2018 Toyota Prius C Hybrid Hatchback

Buyers are encouraged to go for the new Corolla Hybrid instead.

Now that there is a hybrid version of the popular Corolla, Toyota figures it has one too many small hybrid vehicles in its lineup. It has quietly killed off the Prius C hybrid to give more breathing room for both the regular Prius and Corolla hybrid.

The Prius C debuted in 2011 as a smaller alternative to the Prius Liftback, but the Corolla Hybrid is bigger and more efficient, matching the standard Prius’s 52-mpg combined rating in the United States compared to the Prius C’s 46-mpg combined rating.

“You’re probably not going to see Prius C for long,” Toyota marketing vice president Ed Laukes told . “The Prius C has served its purpose well.”

The fuel-sipping Corolla is intended to maximize sales of Toyota’s hybrid powertrain platform by appealing to a broader group of customers who may be put off by the Prius’ polarizing looks but still want extremely good fuel efficiency.

New, 2020 Kia Soul EV Has 243 Mile (391 Km) Driving Range

New, 2020 Kia Soul EV

Kia’s quirky crossover joins the high-range electric vehicle group.

The EPA has given the 2020 Kia Soul EV a driving range of up to 243 miles (391 km) on a single charge, placing it in the same class as the Chevrolet Bolt, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona Electric, Kia Niro EV and Nissan LEAF e+, all of which get over 200 miles (322 km).

In fact, the Soul EV uses the same 64 kWh battery pack as the Kona Electric and Niro. Power is provided by an electric motor that generates 201-horsepower and 291 lb-ft. of torque and can be modulated with four driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport and Eco+, which automatically adjust power output, regenerative braking, climate control settings, and set speed limits to help manage overall efficiency.

Similar to the Niro and Kona EVs, it will charge at around 100kW for at least the first 50 percent of charge. A DC Fast Charge port comes standard.

The 2020 Kia Soul EV goes on sale in the second half of 2019.

Gold Honda Civic Type R and NSX Supercar, Australia

The 50th Anniversary collection also features a golden lawnmower and power generator.

Honda has turned 50 years old in Australia, and to celebrate the milestone, designers wrapped a Civic Type R and NSX supercar in gold, along with its fleet of most notable motorcycles and power equipment.

The steadfast Japanese automaker officially entered the Australian market on February 4, 1969, and has since earned the respect of Australians of all ages for its undying pursuit of quality and reliability. Civic Type R and NSX aside, the celebratory vehicles include a golden CBR1000RR Fireblade motorcycle, CRF450L enduro, and CRF50F kids’ bike, as well as a golden lawnmower and power generator.

“Achieving 50 years of longevity and continuity in business is a significant milestone, but none of this would be possible without our people,” said Hiroyuki Shimizu, head of Honda Australia. “Most importantly… Honda would be nothing without our customers — both long-term customers and new customers all contribute to making this brand what it is today… I am incredibly grateful to all our customers for their ongoing loyalty, trust and belief in the Honda name.”

Whatever you need, Honda clearly has you covered. I mean, how many other automaker do you know that, in addition to cars, make lawnmowers?

Unfortunately, these gold Hondas are one-offs specifically intended for show and not for sale. Their gold vinyl wraps are made up of a gold chrome film as the first layer, topped with a clear satin laminate that helps disperse reflections.
