Swedish automaker Volvo has opened the doors to its all-new XC90, giving us a very good look at the SUV’s interior.
Described as the most luxurious interior ever put together by the company, the XC90 cabin is minimalist and unconventional in appearance. In place of most buttons is a massive touchscreen display similar to the one found in the Tesla Model S, granting the driver all access to the vehicle’s infotainment functions. The instrument cluster is all-digital and will certainly be reconfigurable.
More spacious, versatile and luxurious than ever, the XC90 will be offered with a seven-seat configuration and equipped with the “most comfortable seats in the industry.” Premium materials include soft Nappa leather and dark flame birch wood, as well as unique handcrafted details such as a gear-lever made of crystal sourced from Swedish glass maker Orrefor and diamond-cut start/stop and volume controls.
There is also a four-zone climate system with individual settings for front and second-row occupants, while a separate air-conditioning unit for the third row is optional.
The new XC90 is the first Volvo to use the company’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which creates a far wider range of design possibilities, as previewed by the Concept XC Coupe, Concept Coupe, and Estate Concept. This new architecture enables the struggling Swede to strengthen and reinforce its aim of becoming a serious premium automaker that can go head-to-head against the likes of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The exterior, as well as more details on the interior, will be released closer to the vehicle’s launch in august 2014.
Bentley Continental GT V8 Brings New Engine, Better Fuel Efficiency
The GT V8 is fast despite having a downsized engine.
Doing away with the W12 TSI engine of the regular Continental GT, the new GT Continental V8 variants feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, allowing the coupe to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds before topping out at 198 mph (319 km/h). The convertible is a tenth of a second slower to 60 mph but has the same top speed.
Drivers can travel more than 500 miles on a single tank, thanks in part to the new engine’s ability to shut off four of its cylinders when they’re not needed.
Designers gave the Continental GT Coupe and GT Convertible V8 badging and a unique set of 20-inch 10-spoke painted alloy wheels, while interior highlights include twenty-way adjustable leather seats, Crown Cut Walnut trim, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment duties, and a 650 watt 10-speaker Bentley Audio system that pumps out a powerful 650 watts of entertainment.
Buyers can spruce up their ride even more with a range of exterior colors and interior upholstery configurations and the choice of other wheels up to 22 inches in size.
The Bentley Continental GT V8 models go on sale in the third quarter of 2019.
New, 2020 Cadillac CT5 Sports Sedan Suits Up To Replace CTS
The CTS replacement has arrived in style.
Cadillac has unveiled the CT5, the successor to the CTS and the brand’s all-new midsize sports sedan.
Design wise, the new CT5 falls in line with Cadillac’s latest design language, featuring a short and wide shield-shaped grille, angular headlights, and vertical LED daytime running lights.
A fastback-like roofline rather than traditional three-box proportions gives the model a more distinctive side profile than the CTS, while thin, vertical taillights make it instantly recognizable as a member of the Cadillac family.
The CT5 rides on an evolution of the critically-acclaimed Alpha platform that underpins the ATS, the CTS, as well as the Chevrolet Camaro. Power will come from one of two engines (you choose): a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, or a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6.
Rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission come standard, and all-wheel drive will be offered as an option on select models.
Two flavors of the CT5 will be available at launch: Sport and Luxury. The former takes on a more muscular appearance, while the latter goes for elegance instead.
The all-new, 2020 Cadillac CT5 goes on sale in the second half of 2019 after making its world debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show. Are you happy with how it turned out?
Polestar 2 Electric Car Charges Up To Battle Tesla Model 3
Sweden delivers yet another promising electrified vehicle.
The Polestar 2 has arrived, and it’s ready to do battle with the Tesla Model 3 and other premium compact electric cars.
As Polestar’s first fully-electric vehicle, the Polestar 2 draws heavy inspiration from the Volvo 40.2 concept that debuted in 2016, featuring a relatively high ride height for a sedan and a five-door fastback design that makes it more versatile.
In fact, the Polestar 2 is based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture platform and is powered by a drivetrain consisting of two electric motors and a 78 kWh battery that deliver a combined 408 horsepower and 487 lb-ft. of torque, enough power to accelerate it from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under five seconds.
The 27-module battery pack also integrated into the floor to improve the rigidity of the chassis and improve noise, vibration and harshness levels. It provides the Swedish electric car with a driving range of around 275 miles (443 km) on a single charge.
For those interested in a sportier driving experience, the Polestar 2 will be available with a Performance Pack that adds Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch forged wheels. It also adds gold seat belts, brake calipers and valve caps.
Highlights of the interior include an 11-inch touchscreen that runs an Android-based infotainment system, granting owners access to Google Assistant, Google Maps and a number of other vehicle-based apps.
Production of the Polestar 2 kicks off in China in early 2020, with pricing starting at 39,900 Euros in Europe and at $55,000 in the United States.
Like the Polestar 1, it will be available exclusively via an online ordering system, and there will also eventually be a subscription program to broaden its reach.
Polestar will also introduce a less expensive version of the Polestar 2 down the road.
