Subaru Viziv 2 Concept Previews Future Subaru Design & Technologies

Subaru Viziv 2 Concept, Live

An evolution of the original Viziv Concept, the Subaru Viziv 2 possibly showcases what Subaru has in store for its future crossovers, both from a design and technological standpoint.

Measuring 4.4 meters (173.2-inches) long, the Viziv 2 was developed for environmentally-conscious, frugal families with active lifestyles, a purpose reflected in its overall styling. Large ‘C’-shaped headlamps and round LED fog lights, polished surfaces, prominent wheel arches, and distinct body cladding all work together to present an image of an active crossover. Whereas the first Viziv had two large doors, this one has four.

The equally purposeful interior seats four and “encapsulates function, safety and enjoyment,” featuring an easy to use instrument cluster that shows the operating status for EyeSight — Subaru’s advanced driver assistance system — and the vehicle’s multi-directional sensing systems.

The Viziv 2 is powered by a plugin hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.6-litre turbo-diesel ‘DIT’ (Direct-Injection Turbo) Boxer engine and three electric motors, two powering the rear wheels and one powering the front. The motors source their energy from a lithium-ion battery pack.

A Lineartronic (CVT) automatic transmission transmits power to a symmetrical AWD system that — on the basis of their unique strengths and on driving conditions — automatically selects the best time to use each power unit, achieving greater fuel efficiency and optimal stability and safety.

Subaru has made no mention of a production version of the Viziv 2, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see a third iteration of the concept, and — eventually — a production model. With only one relevant crossover in its lineup (the Forester) the Japanese automaker is in desperate need of more contenders in the increasingly popular and profitable crossover segment.

This Crossover Concept Previews Cadillac’s First-Ever EV

New Cadillac EV Crossover Concept

It came out of nowhere and shocked the Detroit Auto Show.

Cadillac followed up the unveiling of the Cadillac XT6 large crossover with a preview of its first-ever all-electric vehicle.

Taking the form of premium electric crossover, the concept is striking and likely also hints at the brand’s future design direction.

“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. “It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.”

  • New Cadillac XT6 Debuts As Cadillac’s First Three-Row Crossover
  • The surprising reveal comes not long after General Motors announced that Cadillac will lead its electric vehicle strategy, effectively making it the automaker’s Tesla-fighter. Specific details such as power or features aren’t known, nor do we have a definitive timetable as to when the production model will be ready, but it will be the first GM vehicle to be built on the company’s forthcoming dedicated EV platform and should offer level 4 autonomous capabilities at the least.

In essence, not only will the vehicle be Cadillac’s first step into the EV world, but it will also push it deeper into the autonomous realm.

Lexus LC Convertible Concept Previews Stylish Drop-Top Roadster

Lexus LC Convertible Concept

The rumors about the LC 500 getting a droptop version were true after all.

Lexus has revealed the LC Convertible Concept, which likely previews an upcoming open-top roadster and hints at a shift in the LC’s design language.

Presented as a roadster, the LC Convertible Concept is designed to express “ultimate beauty” and serve as an aspirational halo vehicle for the entire Lexus lineup. Its proportions are nearly identical to the LC Coupe but stands out with a steeply-raked windshield and a contoured trunk lid.

“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible,” said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept. “It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”

The interior features white leather trim, contrasted by yellow accent stitching to break up an otherwise monochrome look.

The Lexus LC Convertible Concept appears to be close to production-ready. Do you want one?

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept Previews Infiniti’s EV Future

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept

It introduces a new platform and a new design language inside and out.

Infiniti has revealed the QX Inspiration concept ahead of its world debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.

The stylish concept previews the brand’s plans for electrified, high-performance production vehicles, featuring the the same new design language as the Q Inspiration Concept and a spacious, lounge like interior.

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept

“QX Inspiration is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand,” the Japanese premium marque said in a statement. “New technology has given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy — and the new vehicle communicates the serene strength at our core.”

The cabin was hand-crafted using traditional techniques and a choice of materials inspired by a subtle Japanese sensuality. Occupants are treated to new technology that follows the Japanese hospitality principle of omotenashi, creating a welcoming environment while assisting drivers and connecting occupants to the world around them.

The QX Inspiration Concept is underpinned by a brand new platform specifically engineered for electric vehicles, one that will be a centerpiece of the brand’s planned electrification push scheduled to begin in 2021.

In an earlier report, Infiniti President Roland Krueger suggested that the new line of electric vehicles could have a driving range of at least 311 miles (500 km).
