Mini Clubman Concept Looks Ready to Haul in Style

Published

New, red Mini Clubman Concept front angle

With the stylish new Mini Clubman Concept, Mini is reading the next-generation Clubman for larger tasks. The concept is notably longer and wider than the current model, meaning it can haul more. It’s almost wagon-esque.

Size aside, the most distinct feature of the Clubman Concept is its conventional five-door (actually, it has six doors if you count the split rear doors as two) design. Whereas the trademark of the Clubman has been its 2+1 door layout, with a suicide rear-passenger side door, this one has five.

It’s 260 mm longer, 170 mm wider and 25 mm taller, making it the biggest Mini to date. Yes, it’s even larger than the Countryman crossover in all areas of measurement except height.

The keeners would have noticed something rather interesting going on out back. It’s the taillights. No longer “squircle” (it’s an actually work, search it) and vertical in shape, they are round and horizontal. I don’t know about you, but I like the new style. As a matter fact, I like just about everything about this slick concept.

Mini calls this Clubman a “concept”, but it looks nearly production-ready to me. Still, the production model will have fewer glitz, likely forgoing the full chrome grille, 19-inch wheels and futuristic instrument gauges. Expect something a bit plainer.

The Mini Clubman Concept will show off its good looks at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

New Cadillac EV Crossover Concept

It came out of nowhere and shocked the Detroit Auto Show.

Cadillac followed up the unveiling of the Cadillac XT6 large crossover with a preview of its first-ever all-electric vehicle.

Taking the form of premium electric crossover, the concept is striking and likely also hints at the brand’s future design direction.

“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. “It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.”

  • New Cadillac XT6 Debuts As Cadillac’s First Three-Row Crossover
  • The surprising reveal comes not long after General Motors announced that Cadillac will lead its electric vehicle strategy, effectively making it the automaker’s Tesla-fighter. Specific details such as power or features aren’t known, nor do we have a definitive timetable as to when the production model will be ready, but it will be the first GM vehicle to be built on the company’s forthcoming dedicated EV platform and should offer level 4 autonomous capabilities at the least.

In essence, not only will the vehicle be Cadillac’s first step into the EV world, but it will also push it deeper into the autonomous realm.

Lexus LC Convertible Concept

The rumors about the LC 500 getting a droptop version were true after all.

Lexus has revealed the LC Convertible Concept, which likely previews an upcoming open-top roadster and hints at a shift in the LC’s design language.

Presented as a roadster, the LC Convertible Concept is designed to express “ultimate beauty” and serve as an aspirational halo vehicle for the entire Lexus lineup. Its proportions are nearly identical to the LC Coupe but stands out with a steeply-raked windshield and a contoured trunk lid.

“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible,” said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept. “It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”

The interior features white leather trim, contrasted by yellow accent stitching to break up an otherwise monochrome look.

The Lexus LC Convertible Concept appears to be close to production-ready. Do you want one?

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept

It introduces a new platform and a new design language inside and out.

Infiniti has revealed the QX Inspiration concept ahead of its world debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.

The stylish concept previews the brand’s plans for electrified, high-performance production vehicles, featuring the the same new design language as the Q Inspiration Concept and a spacious, lounge like interior.

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept

“QX Inspiration is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand,” the Japanese premium marque said in a statement. “New technology has given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy — and the new vehicle communicates the serene strength at our core.”

The cabin was hand-crafted using traditional techniques and a choice of materials inspired by a subtle Japanese sensuality. Occupants are treated to new technology that follows the Japanese hospitality principle of omotenashi, creating a welcoming environment while assisting drivers and connecting occupants to the world around them.

The QX Inspiration Concept is underpinned by a brand new platform specifically engineered for electric vehicles, one that will be a centerpiece of the brand’s planned electrification push scheduled to begin in 2021.

In an earlier report, Infiniti President Roland Krueger suggested that the new line of electric vehicles could have a driving range of at least 311 miles (500 km).
