The Bentley Continental GT V8 has now gained the ‘S’ moniker, bringing to the premium and sporting lineup a new level of performance. Available as a coupe or convertible, the new Continental GT V8 S is serious business.
Let’s jump straight to the performance figures — the Continental GT V8 S is powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 521 horsepower and 502 lb-ft (660 Nm) of torque, an increase of 21 hp and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) over the standard GT V8.
That’s enough oomph! to to launch the posh coupe from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds and to a top speed of 192 mph (309 km/h), making it 0.3 seconds faster in the sprint and 4 mph (6 km/h) quicker overall than the regular coupe. The convertible is a tad bit slower, completing the run in 4.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 191 mph (308 km/h).
Despite the power and performance boost, the GT V8 S sips nearly as much fuel as the GT V8 and is able to cover more than 500 miles (805 km) before running dry. That gives it a combined fuel economy of 26.8 mpg on the EU cycle (22.3 mpg US or 10.5 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 246 g/km. The Convertible returns 25.9 mpg (21.5 mpg US or 10.9 liters / 100 km) and emits 254 g/km of CO2.
Other features setting the Continental GT V8 apart from its lesser sibling include a lowered (by 10 mm), performance-tuned suspension complemented by increased spring rates (45 percent front, 33 percent rear) and revised dampers; a recalibrated steering system; and an updated stability control system. There are also a few styling changes front and back, as well as a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels.
Bentley Continental GT V8 Brings New Engine, Better Fuel Efficiency
The GT V8 is fast despite having a downsized engine.
Doing away with the W12 TSI engine of the regular Continental GT, the new GT Continental V8 variants feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 542 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque, allowing the coupe to accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.9 seconds before topping out at 198 mph (319 km/h). The convertible is a tenth of a second slower to 60 mph but has the same top speed.
Drivers can travel more than 500 miles on a single tank, thanks in part to the new engine’s ability to shut off four of its cylinders when they’re not needed.
Designers gave the Continental GT Coupe and GT Convertible V8 badging and a unique set of 20-inch 10-spoke painted alloy wheels, while interior highlights include twenty-way adjustable leather seats, Crown Cut Walnut trim, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for infotainment duties, and a 650 watt 10-speaker Bentley Audio system that pumps out a powerful 650 watts of entertainment.
Buyers can spruce up their ride even more with a range of exterior colors and interior upholstery configurations and the choice of other wheels up to 22 inches in size.
The Bentley Continental GT V8 models go on sale in the third quarter of 2019.
Bentley Bentayga Speed Nabs “World’s Fastest SUV” Title
The luxury SUV can launch to 62 mph in under 4 seconds.
Bentley proudly boasts that, with a top speed of 190 mph (306 km/h), the Bentayga Speed is the world’s fastest production SUV.
The 6.0-liter W12 engine found in the standard Bentayga has been tweaked to put out 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque, providing enough propulsion to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in just 3.9 seconds.
It’s worth noting that the 641 hp, V8-powered Lamborghini Urus is actually lighter and more powerful yet has the same top speed. The fact that the two SUVs are closely related makes us think there were some politics behind this head-scratching outcome.
In addition to the extra power, the Bentayga Speed provides a more dynamic driving experience than the regular Bentayga thanks to a retuned Sport mode and a stiffened suspension, while the exhaust note is throatier.
Designer gave the exterior a performance-theme characterized by dark-tint headlights, blacked-out grilles, a tailgate spoiler, and unique 22-inch wheels available in three finishes. Inside, one finds contrast stitching on the diamond-quilted upholstery and Alcantara trim, the first time the material has been used in a Bentayga.
The Bentley Bentayga Speed goes on sale in the second half of 2019 after making its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
Bentley’s First Electric Car Is Coming In 2023
The good news is that a Bentley electric vehicle is on the way; the bad news is that you’ll have to wait a very long time for one.
Bentley isn’t foolish enough to bet against electric cars, but it sure is taking its sweet time fielding an EV of its own.
The company believes battery technology hasn’t reached a point where it can power its electric cars and won’t get to such a level until 2023 to 2025. In an interview with , Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark stated:
“The problem is when you get to our segment with the size of our vehicles and the frontal area we push through, current battery power density limits the size of the car you can offer with credible driving range.”
Despite hinting at the possibility of an electric sports car with the EXP 12 Speed 6e concept, Bentley’s first electric will actually not be a sports car. Hallmark doesn’t think the company needs a sports car seeing as the Volkswagen Group, which the British automaker belongs to, already has enough of them.
An earlier report claimed that the car might borrow its platform from Audi and Porsche, a platform custom-tailored for electric vehicles.
