This is the Cadillac Elmiraj Concept, a grand coupe that hints at an upcoming Cadillac flagship model. The Elmiraj “showcases a new vision for luxury driving and the top of the brand’s expanding range.”

Measuring 205 inches (5207 mm) in length, the Elmiraj is four-seat coupe that takes up from where the ultra-stylish Ciel convertible left off. Design highlights include a slimmer interpretation of Cadillac’s vertical signature headlight design; a long dash-to-axle front profile; a clean body side; a feature line that extends the full length of the body side, connecting the car’s vertical front and rear elements; a rich blue exterior finish; and 22-inch aluminum wheels with carbon ceramic brakes.

The interior features a 2+2 seating layout and is covered in such premium materials as camel leather and Brazilian Rosewood. There is also a full-length center console, a retractable infotainment system with a 10-inch touchscreen display, and a high-tech instrument cluster with a transparent tachometer and speedometer.

To enhance comfort and accessibility, the front bucket seats slide 10 inches forward while the rear seats (also buckets) slide 4 inches forward to meet the passenger, then slides him or her back into position once seated. The rear seats also recline.

The Elmiraj is constructed with chassis and structural elements of a Cadillac model slated for future production. Under its hood is a 4.5-liter twin turbocharged V8 producing an estimated 500 horsepower and 500 lb-ft (678 Nm) of torque. The engine is based on Cadillac’s new twin-turbo V6 featured in the new CTS Vsport, but expands on it to deliver V8 performance.

Cadillac claims the concept is not an exaggeration or teasing of a future production models; rather, it suggests new territory for the brand’s successful Art & Science design philosophy.

“This concept is the second chapter, following the Ciel Concept, of our exploration of the personas of true luxury,” said Clay Dean, executive director of advanced design. “This project originated around the simple persona of “the drive,” or the visceral experience of driving a great luxury coupe. It’s an expression of the confidence and poise you feel driving a high-performance car, which we feel is an essential element of top-level luxury.”

First came a convertible, and now we have a coupe. Cadillac’s next big concept will be a captivating sedan.

New, 2019 BMW 1 Series Arrives With FWD Setup, More Of Everything

New, 2019 BMW 1 Series M135i, blue exterior

BMW’s small hatchback enters a new era with a front-wheel-drive platform.

The all-new, 2019 BMW 1 Series has been unveiled, bringing a number of firsts for the nameplate.

Developed from the ground up, the third-generation 1 Series represents a vast departure from predecessor. It is the first 1 Series to have a front-wheel drive layout instead of rear-wheel drive, which theoretically would make it less of an enthusiast car.

The old 1 Series looked a bit gawping with their large headlights and slightly-awkward styling proportions, something the new 1 Series remedies with a more chiseled design that neatly integrates BMW’s current styling language. Flanked by a sleek set of headlights, the twin-kidney grille is of a tasteful size, while wider and slimmer tail lamps give the rear end character.

The interior is roomier than before, and like the exterior, features a familiar design seen in BMW’s latest vehicles. A standard 8.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system comes standard and supports gesture controls, while high-spec models get a bigger 10.25 inches screen, complemented by a fully-digital instrument cluster of the same size.

In Europe, the new 1 Series will be offered with three diesel and two gasoline engines, with output ranging for 116-horsepower to 302 ponies. A six-speed manual transmission will be available, as well as a seven-speed dual clutch on higher trims.

The M135i (pictured) is powered by a 2.0-liter gas unit that produces 302 horsepower and 450 Newton-meters, making it BMW’s most powerful four-cylinder engine ever. The capable engine, combined with a eight-speed Steptronic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system, allows it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than five seconds.

In keeping with the competition, the long list of driving aids include lane-keeping, city-braking functions, active cruise control, and an array of parking assistants.

The all-new, 2019 BMW 1 Series goes on sale in September 2019 shortly after making its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. How do you think it compares with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Audi A3?

Hyundai’s SUV and crossover family welcomes their smallest and most affordable member.

The all-new, 2020 Hyundai Venue is a new entry-level SUV for the masses. Designed to appeal to millennials, it is the smallest and most affordable utility vehicle offered by Hyundai.

The Venue is actually five-inches shorter than the Kona, but a taller, more upright profile makes it appear bigger and even more substantial.

Exterior design is in line with Hyundai’s latest SUV design language, with highlights including the brand’s cascading grille and squarish headlights placed below razor-thin daytime running lights and turn signals.

Inside, the 2020 Venue gets an 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and rearview monitor. Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant connectivity are also available.

Power comes from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that can be mated to either a six-speed manual transmission or Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) automatic, delivering fuel economy of up to 33 mpg combined.

Despite its small size, the crossover can be had with many of Hyundai’s latest safety technologies including forward collision assist, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, rear cross-traffic warning, driver attention warning, and blind-spot detection.

New, 2020 Lincoln Corsair Luxury SUV Is A Baby Aviator

New, 2020 Lincoln Corsair SUV, luxury SUV

Lincoln has unveiled the all-new, 2020 Lincoln Corsair, the replacement for the MKC.

As the company’s contender in the crowded compact luxury crossover segment, the Corsair is a lot more stylish and sophisticated than the MKC, borrowing many styling cues from the new Nautilus, Aviator, and Navigator. I fact, I would go as far as to call it a baby Aviator.

The Corsair has an attractive exterior, but it’s the interior that makes the biggest statement. It comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Wi-Fi across all trims and phone-as-key technology that allows owners to keep their key at home and use their smartphone instead, while an optional 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and wireless charging adds more functionality. Exotic leather colors and shapely wooden inserts lend greatly to its classy atmosphere.

The options list also includes 24-way adjustable seats with massage and ambient lighting, a massive panoramic glass roof, and 14-speaker Revel audio system

At launch, the new Corsair will give buyers two engine options. There is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that produces 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque and an optional, slightly more powerful 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 280 hp and 310 lb-ft. A plug-in hybrid model will join the lineup later on.

All Corsair models get Lincoln’s basic suite of safety features, which includes automatic high beams, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, reverse brake assist, and automatic park assist are optional.

Sales of the new, 2020 Lincoln Corsair begin in fall 2019. Did Lincoln do a good job?
