The all-new 2014 Toyota Corolla is said to have dramatically amplified elements of style, design, quality and craftsmanship, while building upon the model’s reputation for reliability, efficiency and function. While we’re certain the car remains as reliable as ever, we’re not too sure about the amplified style and design bit. Sure, styling is always a matter of taste, but I can’t be the only one that finds the front end a bit dopey. The overall design isn’t too bad, but it’s a bit on the safe side. These two videos provide a good walk-around of the exterior.
Then again, with nearly 40 million units sold, the Corolla has such a strong following that it would sell in droves regardless of its appearance. Just look at the previous model . . .
The ‘higher quality’ interior is more interesting, but that’s mainly because the old one was the text-book definition of cheap and boring. There are more colours and textures to be had in this one.
Next Lexus IS Might Use The Same BMW Engine As Supra
Engineers are implanting a BMW heart into the Japanese sports sedan.
A new report coming out of Japan states that the next-generation Lexus IS will get the same BMW-sourced inline six-cylinder engine as new Toyota Supra.
According , the 3.0L V6, which produces 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque in the Supra, will be part of an engine lineup that also includes a 2.0L turbo, a 2.4L turbo, and/or a 2.5L hybrid powertrain depending on region.
It can also be found in the latest Z4 as well as the IS’s natural rival, the BMW M340i.
The next-generation IS is unlikely to change in size but will weigh less, topping the scale at approximately 3,395 lbs compared to the current IS’ 3,737 lbs.
Finally, the Japanese car magazine claims the IS F will make a return packing a variation of the in-house twin-turbo V6 found under the hood of the popular LS 500.
Lexus has not confirmed when the next-generation IS will debut, but there have been rumors that it could arrive in 2020.
Subaru WRX STI S209 Is The Most Powerful Subaru Ever
The long-rumored, limited edition Subaru WRX STI S209 is here, and it’s the most powerful car ever built by Subaru.
Unveiled at the 2019 Detroit Auto SHow, the S209 transcends the standard WRX STI in power, aerodynamics, and handling. Engineers reworked Subaru’s 2.5-liter boxer engine, giving it a larger HKS turbocharger that increases boost pressure from 16.2 psi to 18.0 psi and stronger yet lighter pistons and connecting rods.
The result? A significant boost in power from 300 horsepower to 341 horsepower, while midrange torque jumps by 10 percent at 3,600 rpm. All that power is sent to the four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
Inspired by the the WRX STI Nürburgring Challenge racecar, the WRX STI S209 looks the part with wider fenders, front canards and a large rear wing. Handling benefits from a revised chassis and suspension, a flexible strut tower bar and tensioned draw stiffeners, along with 19×9-inch forged BBS alloy wheels covered in sticky Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tires.
The Subaru WRX STI S209 will be available exclusively in the US market, and only 200 units will be manufactured. You will be able to choose from two color combinations: WR Blue Pearl with gray wheels and Crystal White Pearl with gold wheels.
Next BMW M3 Has RWD And 4WD Versions, Which Will You Choose?
The M3 will take a page from the latest M5, but without losing grip of its roots.
When the sixth-generation BMW M3 and M4 hit the market, they will reportedly be offered with both rear-wheel and all-wheel driver versions.
The rear-wheel drive M3 / M4 — ‘M3 and M4 Pure’, as they are known internally — are intended for purists, while those looking for outright performance will certainly go for the all-wheel drive variants.
According to , the all-wheel drive M3 / M4 can only be had with a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and will have a bit more power to work with since the manual transmission in the purist M3 / M4 can’t handle the same amount of torque. It will also be a bit different aesthetically, featuring a different front fascia and set of wheels.
BMW hasn’t announced when the next M3 and M4 will debut, but it will add three additional go-faster models to the lineup overtime, including a competition package.
