New McLaren P1 Supercar Concept Previews F1 Successor

Published

McLaren P1 Concept

The moment we’ve all been waiting for is finally here. Debuting at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the McLaren P1 is a design study that gives us a good look at the F1 supercar successor.

Design wise, the P1 looks like a more exotic McLaren MP4-12C. Highlights include an intricate front fascia with an aggressive front splitter, a high-slung rear end that incorporates a high-mounted center exhaust and large diffuser and a swoopy side profile.

Like the MP4-12, the P1 is all about optimal power-to-weight ratio. Its body is constructed mostly out of carbon fiber; it is powered by a re-tuned variant of the MP4-12C’s 3.8-liter bi-turbocharged V8, paired to a Formula 1-style Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) to produce as much as 800 horsepower. That could very well mean a 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) acceleration time of just 2.8 seconds, a 0 to 100 mph (161 km/h) run of 5.5 seconds and a 0 to 200 mph (322 km/h) run of a mind-numbing 20 seconds.

Other performance highlights include a pushrod suspension system, hydraulic anti-roll control, adaptive dampers and an advanced traction control system.

“Our aim is not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit,” said McLaren Automotive Managing Director Antony Sheriff. “It is the true test of a supercar’s all round ability and a much more important technical statement. Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made.”

New Cadillac EV Crossover Concept

It came out of nowhere and shocked the Detroit Auto Show.

Cadillac followed up the unveiling of the Cadillac XT6 large crossover with a preview of its first-ever all-electric vehicle.

Taking the form of premium electric crossover, the concept is striking and likely also hints at the brand’s future design direction.

“Cadillac’s EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world,” said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. “It will represent the height of luxury and innovation while positioning Cadillac as the pinnacle of mobility.”

  • New Cadillac XT6 Debuts As Cadillac’s First Three-Row Crossover
  • The surprising reveal comes not long after General Motors announced that Cadillac will lead its electric vehicle strategy, effectively making it the automaker’s Tesla-fighter. Specific details such as power or features aren’t known, nor do we have a definitive timetable as to when the production model will be ready, but it will be the first GM vehicle to be built on the company’s forthcoming dedicated EV platform and should offer level 4 autonomous capabilities at the least.

In essence, not only will the vehicle be Cadillac’s first step into the EV world, but it will also push it deeper into the autonomous realm.

Lexus LC Convertible Concept

The rumors about the LC 500 getting a droptop version were true after all.

Lexus has revealed the LC Convertible Concept, which likely previews an upcoming open-top roadster and hints at a shift in the LC’s design language.

Presented as a roadster, the LC Convertible Concept is designed to express “ultimate beauty” and serve as an aspirational halo vehicle for the entire Lexus lineup. Its proportions are nearly identical to the LC Coupe but stands out with a steeply-raked windshield and a contoured trunk lid.

“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible,” said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept. “It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an open-air convertible.”

The interior features white leather trim, contrasted by yellow accent stitching to break up an otherwise monochrome look.

The Lexus LC Convertible Concept appears to be close to production-ready. Do you want one?

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept

It introduces a new platform and a new design language inside and out.

Infiniti has revealed the QX Inspiration concept ahead of its world debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.

The stylish concept previews the brand’s plans for electrified, high-performance production vehicles, featuring the the same new design language as the Q Inspiration Concept and a spacious, lounge like interior.

Infiniti QX Inspiration Concept

“QX Inspiration is the beginning of a new era for Infiniti and an illustration of where we want to go with the brand,” the Japanese premium marque said in a statement. “New technology has given us the opportunity to evolve our design philosophy — and the new vehicle communicates the serene strength at our core.”

The cabin was hand-crafted using traditional techniques and a choice of materials inspired by a subtle Japanese sensuality. Occupants are treated to new technology that follows the Japanese hospitality principle of omotenashi, creating a welcoming environment while assisting drivers and connecting occupants to the world around them.

The QX Inspiration Concept is underpinned by a brand new platform specifically engineered for electric vehicles, one that will be a centerpiece of the brand’s planned electrification push scheduled to begin in 2021.

In an earlier report, Infiniti President Roland Krueger suggested that the new line of electric vehicles could have a driving range of at least 311 miles (500 km).
