Volkswagen Bringing Back Microbus?

Volkswagen Bulli Concept

Volkswagen has long talked about its intention to become the number one automaker in the world. The success of this goal will be in large part dependent on its ability to reach 1 million sales annually in the U.S., which is in turn dependent on its success in the region’s crossover market.

As nobodies in the U.S. crossover segment, Volkswagen and Audi will reportedly make a mark with one vehicle each, although a third one is also said to be in the cards.

“We have quite a lot of nameplates in the market today for our total volume,” Jonathan Browning, Volkswagen Group of America CEO told Automotive News. “But we don’t have enough depth in key segments.”

Expected to go on sale in 2014, Volkswagen’s crossover has been reported to be a seven-seater that will compete with the likes of the Ford Explorer.

The brand is also considering a crossover that is stylistically inspired by the classic Microbus. Around the size of the Scion xD, the model will likely go on sale in 2014.

Audi e-tron’s 204-Miles Electric Driving Range Is Disappointing

New 2020 Audi e-tron electric SUV

Audi’s first all-electric vehicle arrives with sub-par driving range.

Audi has announced final specifications and launch details for the new e-tron SUV, and there are some disappointments.

While a 204 miles (328 km) driving range will prove sufficient for most commuters, it is significantly lower than the 295 mile (475 km) range you get with the Model X. According to Audi, average buyers of premium vehicles only travel around 30 miles (48 km) per day, so this shouldn’t be an issue.

The e-tron is also not as quick as the Model X. Its 402 horsepower in ‘Boost Mode’ allows drivers to accelerate to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, but the Tesla has a zero-to-60 mph benchmark of 4.7 seconds in standard form or 3.5 seconds for the Performance.

On a brighter note, it can add 54 miles (87 km) of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a DC fast charge and 163 miles (262 km) in 30 minutes.

Audi e-tron prices start at $74,800 in the United States, which is nearly $6,000 less than the cheapest Model X.

Audi e-tron GT electric sedan concept

Telsa’s popular sedan will not go unanswered.

Having kicked off its electric vehicle blitz with the e-tron SUV, Audi is now gearing up to introduce an electric sedan that will rival the Tesla Model 3.

Speaking to at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi design boss Marc Lichte revealed that German automaker will release the new model sometime in 2023. It’s expected to be about the same size as the A4 and will ride on same PPE platform as the upcoming E-tron GT.

“There will be [electric] SUVs and low-floor sporty cars such as the E-tron GT, which is our ‘halo’ car,” Lichte stated. “There will be an E-tron GT in the [A4- sized] segment as well. We’re working on this right now.”

Audi’s Tesla Model-fighting electric sedan won’t arrive until Audi releases the e-tron Sportback electric SUV and the smaller Q4 e-tron SUV, which the company predicts will be one of its most popular electric vehicles, with sales on par with the Q3 crossover.

New, 2019 Audi A6-Avant (Wagon)

An enigmatic Twitter post suggests more Audi wagons are coming to North America.

With the A4 Allroad serving as its only wagon available in the United States and Canada, Audi could be gearing up to capitalize on the small renaissance in the wagon segment.
