Ward has released its annual list of . To be eligible for consideration, the magazine states that “each engine must be available in a regular-production U.S.-specification model on sale no later than first-quarter 2012, in a vehicle with a base price below $55,000”.
In deciding on the winners, Ward’s editors spent October and November driving 36 vehicles, 34 of which featured new or significantly upgraded powerplants. Of special note is how many of the engines came equipped with direct fuel-injection technology (7 out of 10). Moreover, gasoline engines dominated the list, with only one hybrid powertrain (featured in the Infiniti M35h) landing a spot. Not a single electric or diesel powertrain made the list. Ford and BMW came out with the most awards, each taking home two. The rest — GM (with Buick), Chrysler/Jeep, Audi, Hyundai/Kia, Mazda and Infiniti — took home one each.
Audi e-tron’s 204-Miles Electric Driving Range Is Disappointing

Audi has announced final specifications and launch details for the new e-tron SUV, and there are some disappointments.
While a 204 miles (328 km) driving range will prove sufficient for most commuters, it is significantly lower than the 295 mile (475 km) range you get with the Model X. According to Audi, average buyers of premium vehicles only travel around 30 miles (48 km) per day, so this shouldn’t be an issue.
The e-tron is also not as quick as the Model X. Its 402 horsepower in ‘Boost Mode’ allows drivers to accelerate to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, but the Tesla has a zero-to-60 mph benchmark of 4.7 seconds in standard form or 3.5 seconds for the Performance.
On a brighter note, it can add 54 miles (87 km) of range in just 10 minutes when connected to a DC fast charge and 163 miles (262 km) in 30 minutes.
Audi e-tron prices start at $74,800 in the United States, which is nearly $6,000 less than the cheapest Model X.
Audi’s Tesla Model 3-Fighter Is Coming In 2023

Having kicked off its electric vehicle blitz with the e-tron SUV, Audi is now gearing up to introduce an electric sedan that will rival the Tesla Model 3.
Speaking to at the Geneva Motor Show, Audi design boss Marc Lichte revealed that German automaker will release the new model sometime in 2023. It’s expected to be about the same size as the A4 and will ride on same PPE platform as the upcoming E-tron GT.
“There will be [electric] SUVs and low-floor sporty cars such as the E-tron GT, which is our ‘halo’ car,” Lichte stated. “There will be an E-tron GT in the [A4- sized] segment as well. We’re working on this right now.”
Audi’s Tesla Model-fighting electric sedan won’t arrive until Audi releases the e-tron Sportback electric SUV and the smaller Q4 e-tron SUV, which the company predicts will be one of its most popular electric vehicles, with sales on par with the Q3 crossover.
Is Audi Bringing More Wagons To The United States, Canada?
An enigmatic Twitter post suggests more Audi wagons are coming to North America.
With the A4 Allroad serving as its only wagon available in the United States and Canada, Audi could be gearing up to capitalize on the small renaissance in the wagon segment.
A tweet () by the German automaker hints at more of its wagon crossing the Atlantic, with some reports claiming that the A6 Avant at the very least will be sold alongside the rugged, more offroad-oriented A4 Allroad.
The performance-oriented RS6 Avant with its twin-turbocharged 4.0L V8 may also come to America, giving practical-minded driving enthusiasts a compelling option to consider.
The North American-spec A6 Avant could go on sale sometime in the second half of 2019 as 2020 model year vehicle as Audi’s an answer to Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon and Volvo V90. How will you configure yours?
